  1. “ retroactive application”, slight euphemism I think. Many MPs of all parties had their snouts in the trough and took the piss, hence the public outrage. Some MPs actually committed fraud and were convicted of such in a criminal court. I didn’t need the media to tell me that Brown imo WAS a poor communicator and the rest is history.
  2. “Retroactive application”, a slight euphemism I think. Many MPs of all sides had their noses in the trough and took the piss. Some actually committed fraud , which is why they were convicted in a criminal court. Brown was a poor communicator unfortunately and the rest is history.
  3. I am talking about the Labour government overall. Brown was unlucky in that the global crash happened on his watch, as did the expenses scandal. However, I seem to remember that it was mostly Labour MPs that were convicted as a direct result of that scandal, Denis MacShane a former Labour minister was sent to prison for false accounting in a separate investigation a few years after that. I think a lot of people thought that Brown was a poor communicator, not cut out to be PM.
  4. Ultimately, no one party should be in power for a decade and a half, whether the tories or Labour. We have seen what happened under the last 3 long term governments, it bred arrogance, complacency, entitlement incompetence and a fair bit of corruption. It is clear Keir Starmer will win this election and he seems like a relatively normal human being. I really hope he can turn it around, because there is so much wrong with this country, it must difficult to know where to start. Just picking up what you said about VAT on private schools, it is hard to believe( and I am not disbelieving you) that would be one of the main reasons not to vote Labour. It must only be a tiny percentage of people that can afford to send their child to a private school. The guy that asked that exact question last night understandably did not get a lot of sympathy!
  5. That’s pretty cringe tbf. 🤣
  6. Forgot the smiley emoji! 😁
  7. He looks and sounds depressed. Shame.
  8. Yes I just caught it on the news. I can’t imagine trying to bring up a family in such a hostile environment .
  9. Keep meaning to watch it, in what way was it strange?
  10. Let’s see how the 1st Presidential debate goes in a fortnight, if neither one cries off of course.
  11. Is he also rambling when he can’t recall who he is running against?
  12. Trump being 78 tomorrow looks as though he is suffering from some cognitive decline. I have heard many of his recent speeches and there is usually a point where he seems to completely disconnect. This is one example (about 7.10 in) from the other day, where he is in Nevada and he rambles about sharks and boats’ electric batteries. I don’t think his audience is going to be too bothered about either! He regularly confuses Obama with Biden ( he deflects by saying Obama is the real power behind the throne), but that really doesn’t wash. Like I said clearly neither should be running.
  13. I signed up for some free pants and tried to cancel my subscription the next day, but had to wait 48 hrs to do so. Now they are offering more free pants to get me to re subscribe. 🤣
  14. Listen to any of Trump’s speeches and he glitching all the time. Neither of them should be running of course.
  15. He will be too concerned with Hunter Biden. Not sure how he spins the ‘ weaponised justice system’ in this one, but I am sure he will manage it.
  16. The 81yr old didn’t boogie, que surprise. Not sure about the slurring, the man does stammer though.
  17. This knife culture is very scary, where does a 12 yr get 40 quid to ‘buy’ a machete? You have to look at the parents/guardians and wonder what they were doing.
  18. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cekk3954890o Pretty horrific. Youngest murderers since Venables and Thompson. I assume they will named at sentencing, although I could not see the date of that in the article.
  19. I was not saying his death was not news. My point is that the BBC chose to lead with it, when I would argue, rather more seismic events were occurring ie Macron’s snap election, which could result in Le Pen’s power base being significantly strengthened. I assume it was because he was a BBC presenter, which if so was rather parochial of them.
  20. The way certain news channels go way over the top when a celebrity dies. The BBC led with the death of Dr Michael Mosley. I know he was one of their presenters, but they said that he was described in some quarters as a ‘ national treasure’. I understand that he was a very nice man and of course the circumstances of his death was sad, but too be perfectly candid I had barely heard of him. To put this story above say the snap French election, or other world events is rather nonsensical.
  21. Affordable housing in whatever form. The rental housing market has long needed reform. They have long term rents in many other countries, which gives some stability to renters. Why not here? This current mob could not even be bothered to ensure the renters reform bill went through parliament before the election. Too many of them with their noses in the trough.
  22. Look at who else was in that leadership race, Mordant, Hunt, Braverman, Badenoch ,Tugendhat and Zaharia. None of them electable either.
  23. You think Trump is coherent? He can barely string a sentence together. 🤣
  24. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/republican-lawmaker-defends-jim-crow-comments-after-criticism-black-democrats-2024-06-06/ MAGA republican representative Bryon Donalds trying to out dumb Marjorie Taylor-Greene, no mean feat!
  25. I had to ring them last month and held on for ever. The guy I spoke to advised me if needed to call them back, to do so as early as possible, after their phone lines open at 8.00am. Thankfully I didn’t have to.
