And that has what to do with this particular transfer going on for a massive three days and people whining about it "taking so long".
-
He's out of his depth because the player has tax issues that he may or may not be willing to bite the bullet on and take the hit personally. FFS, I get it peope don't like Rudkin but having to turn every little thing into a dig or a blame game is just a bit pathetic.
-
It's not even a long time, we found out of our interest less than 3 days ago.
-
Are you suggesting the player, his club and his agent have any say in it whatsoever? Ridiculous.
-
I’m suspecting you can’t read along with some other people on here.
-
Exactly why I put “experts”. But budget and our ability to commit to long term contracts is obviously dictating a lot. Ayew is very well liked at Palace, so it depends what the manager has asked for doesn’t it.

I think he nearly took down the whole of the internet in Leicester with that. My browser crashed

Literally spat my tea over my desk.

Let's just clariify this, it came from people who worked at the club when every man and their dog wanted to interview our staff about the goings on at the club because we did so well. They laid out how they worked and it included basically handing over a deal that was already partially negotiated. I'm not going to spend hours trying to find the exact article or excert from a book, so I appreciate I can only offer my word on it here. But here is a little bit in one of Rob McKenzies interviews that talks about them and the finances side of things. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/10716991/the-changing-face-of-scouting-dealing-with-agents "One of the jobs of the modern scout is to filter out the names that get thrown at you on a daily basis. The key is to be able to explain quickly and succinctly why they do not fit the profile of player that the club is looking for. And even if they do fit the profile, is there an alternative available for half the price? Have you considered all the options?" John Rudkin is not a scout, he does not scout players, he's not there to know every single player in world football and what they are valued at. The club literally employ "experts" in their field who are meant to spend their time looking at all of this stuff. Walsh used to talk about building links with players and clubs etc long before we bid. That they've basically hand the club a player and an already partially done transfer deal. What he is going to be responsible for is hiring the wrong people in the wrong positions at the head of the scouting department. Hire the wrong people there... eg. A certain managers mate who was useless at his previous clubs, then they might give you duff info because they are rubbish at their job, or because the manager has too much inflluence on them. One wrong decision can lead to dozens and dozens of poor decisions down the chain.
-
That somewhat misses the point though doesn't it, the argument has never been he's not responsible, it's about how much of it he's responsible for. He doesn't sort out the finances, yet people seem happy to lay PSR at his door, which then massively impacts what he and managers can and can't do in the market. We simply don't know who signed off the giant overspending, that's above his remit. Did Rodgers speak to Top and ask for backing, did he sign off the gross overspend personally. Did Rudkin ask for it and put the pressure on? Did Whelan agree or disagree with it? Clearly there are going to be many obvious things within his remit, some obviously outside of it and others with grey areas.
-
But it this way, they are far more enthusiastic about keeping him than they are getting Zaha back.
-
The issue isn't costs this season particularly, it's about costs going forward. Anyone we sign on a long contract, is a commitment on our accounts for a long period of time. Hence why, we need to do loans and frees to make up the numbers, with a few signings committed.
-
No, they didn't, not really. If finances mean we can no longer buy, we can't buy. But that's not blaming the club, is it? Transfers fail for hundreds of reasons, some of which have nothing to do with the club. Some of these have to do with the club, but it's in the club's best interest not to bend over backwards, and some I'm sure will be because of poor negotiating because it's going to happen at some point. But you can't just land it all at the club's feet, whether you like it or not; we're in a shit position financially and have a points deduction hanging over us; it's not an easy situation to negotiate in. Yeah we put ourselves here but it's besides the point.
-
I'm sorry what managers have moaned about messing up transfers?
-
Well, it's simple, really: because of the tax differences between the two countries, he either doesn't want to take a large drop in wages to make the deal happen, or we won't pay 25% over what he's getting now to make up for it. GOOD... with respect, I'd like the deal to happen, but absolutely not at any cost.

Yeah but that's garbage because she's been our rep on the board from day one pre Rudkin. Rudkin isn't even on the board of the club, she is. She signs off all the accounts and has her name on them and will know every detail of what's going on. To suggest she's just commercial and isn't involved is frankly rubbish when she's the CEO. She might not be hiring an firing scouts or down at the training ground talking to managers, but she is involved in football matters. I'll leave Susan to finish here, but she and they failed. “The devil is in the detail,” she says. “I have an enormous workload and my management style is to delve into the detail, some may say too much. But I do not feel comfortable unless I know the detail. I like to have total involvement and know everything that is going on.” As Chief Executive at Leicester City FC, Whelan is ultimately responsible to the board for every aspect of the day-to-day running of the club, working with a management team of directors that cover all of the key areas from finance and commercial to the football itself. “We work as a team and our aim is for Leicester City to be the best run club in the Premier league,” she says.
-
She is PART of the problem, just as Top is PART of the problem and Rudkin is PART of the problem. She's the CEO of the business, she's going to be setting budgets with the board. At some point, they've signed off a massive overspend that has caused all the PSR issues. These things don't creep up on you, they've been well aware of the losses for years and years and done nothing to correct it.
-
She's been our representative at all the premier league meetings, etc; how's that not involved in football? She's also a board member and CEO of the club, the simple fact is she has more power than Rudkin and more remit to make quick decisions that don't need running up the chain.

You know what Enzo told you, which is one side of the story. I've said it before, but Enzo isn't an idiot and neither would his agent be. They were well aware that as a relegated club we'd need to sell players, I very much doubt that case wasn't communicated. He was then handed one of, if not THE most expsnsively paid set of players to ever grace the championship along with about £40m to spend, again, one of the biggest budgets ever seen. To then turn around in the January and express shock at the situation of not having money (I mean, did he even ask) always felt some what off to me. Things weren't going to suddenly change from the summer situation. Now, fair enough he might not have known about the PSR stuff, but it was a bit bloody rich to moan about not having funds etc.

Perhaps don’t believe everything you read
-
Ha I just had a look around, good lord... who buys this stuff? There is literally almost no effort put into creating the stuff.
-
We got hard linked with about 5 players less than 48 hours ago
-
We are currently a premier league team, after the club made plenty of good decisions last season in terms of recruitment of manager and players. Comparisons to McLintock and Pleat are just bizarre. Everyone makes mistakes, there isn't an owner out there who won't. I'm happy for them to have the time to correct the mistakes that went before. The biggest failure is PSR, and that's not a quick one to fix, and is likely to impact our ability to compete on the pitch and off the pitch for a couple of seasons and will impact all the decisons around the club. There isn't much that can be done there, no matter if they sold up six months ago, the seeds have been sown. We need to get those finances under control, and once that's done, the pressure is well and truly on.
-
Palace are an established premier league team, who had the best years of Zaha. There really is little need to them to take a risk on him and then potentially ruin what they had. I'm not expecting the Zaha of three or four years ago, but the simple matter is we don't have the wiggle room to make lots of cash signings, the squad is thin and we are reaching the start of the season. I think people expecting him to keep us up are pushing it, but I think all things considered, it's worth a punt for a season if we've already exhausted some other avenues / first choices.
