  1. In the same sense, Maresca is a failed manager because he got sacked by Parma and Potter is a failed manager as he was dreadful at Chelsea? What is the talent you are referring to and would said talent join a club with likely little money to spend and a likely rather large points deduction coming our way? As I said weeks ago, no managers will join us without question marks on them. Whether that's because they lost another job, or because they've go no experience, or because they've got no promotions or keeping a team up on their CV. If they are obviously high quality, then the reality is they probably have better options right now or don't want to risk their reputation on what is likely to be a bit of a lame duck in us this season.
  2. Good luck, we were going to need it this season no matter what.
  3. Each to their own, but I was often bored senseless. Same might be said under Cooper also, we will see.
  4. Difficult one, really; they finished 10th the season before he joined and then 15th, 10th and 14th after he left. They've only been remotely competitive under him since they were relegated. Went to Forest and played some really exciting stuff.
  5. But they did stay up, and going down was all anyone expected. Losing so many players when they went up, and then having to integrate 22 new players into a squad is wild, nobody gave them a chance, it seemed like a totally thankless task to attempt to create a functioning unit from that starting point. I agree that ideally, you'd want to keep a manager with a roughly similar style, but maybe that's what he's agreed to; it is what he preaches. Potter would have ben ideal to keep consistency, but he's obviously decided against it. Corberan isn't the same style as Maresca, so even if we went there it's a totally different style of play. Not mant do play the exact way Maresca did. I totally get some concerns, but the total obliteration of the guys career like it's nothing is very harsh IMO.
  6. In all seriousness, I have no idea how it will turn out. The biggest negative people come up with is style of play, but he played very differently in his first season there compared to the premier league. He's preached that he likes entertaining attacking football, but he's also said he's realistic in achieving it. He explained to Forest the realities of the premier league; the ruthlessness of the finishing, etc, meant they were shipping too many goals, and he felt he had to change the style. They stopped up, so in the end, it was justified. There are certainly concerns he might give up on the attacking, passing philosophy too quickly. But all I heard last season from the fans was how inflexible we were and that if we played like that, we'd get hammered in the premier league.
  7. Positives • Did a decent job taking over Swansea, who finished 10th under Potter, and steering them to 6th and 4th. They've not touched those heights since. • Steered Forest to the premier league from the position they were in the Championship, which was literally akin to polishing a turd. • The above means if the worst happens, we have a proven competitive Championship manager. • Has premier league experience. • Kept Forest in the premier league despite losing lots of players and having a crackpot owner and transfer policy. Their best league finish since 1998 / 1999 • Was widely respected as a youth team coach, moving from Wrexham to Liverpool, and then to England where he won trophies. • Likes to play and blood youth team players, likely to be the way we need to go with the new financial restrictions. • Known to be a good man manager and liked by his players. • Fosters a real togetherness in his squads. • States that he wants to play attacking, attractive football, and clarified he still wants to play that way but the harsh realities of the premier league and the fact they were shipping goals meant they had to change it at Forest. • He's young, he's only the same age as Maresca. • He's likely to be relatively cheap in comparison with Potter, helping with the financial issues. Nagatives • Worked for Nottingham Forest like our greatest ever captain. • Question marks about his style of play in the premier league. • Apparently a low win percentage is a really bad thing for a newly promoted team, even if they stay up. • His name isn't Seve Cooperos, doesn't wear chinos and turtle necks, and thus doesn't get the juices flowing of the Foxestalk natives.
  8. I don’t get people bringing up win ratios of newly promoted managers. Someone just got the Bayern job with a worse premier league win ratio.
  9. Quite possibly yes, what the point?
  10. It’s only a 180 if we don’t play like that. Perhaps he’s come in and said that’s how he wants to play, given the reasons for not doing that way at Forest in the prem (I keep repeating it but he’s said numerous times it’s the way he wants to play). They’ve had the same MO since Puel, so I’m not sure it’s going to be put in the bin. Especially in the back of a successful season.
  11. Stuff like this I find baffling. Sven, Sousa, getting rid of Pearson to hire him again, broke ffp to get promoted (sound familiar), lost a manager we liked after scraping safety and having the embarrassing “he’s sacked, no he’s not episode”, and hired the universally “WTF” are we doing Ranieri and we got beyond lucky. Seems like we are totally on brand, all he never did was give up and kept correcting our mistakes.
  12. Doesn’t take much to change that, by all accounts from what I saw he was very well liked by the Forest squad with great man management skills.
  13. I wasn’t excited about Maresca, I had little opinion of him really as his only experience was a total flop at his first club. I know everyone loves Pep, but not all his coaches are going to be good managers. Im not really excited by Cooper either, but he was respected enough to be taken to Liverpool to head their youth team from Wrexham, and then respected enough to get a post with England winning Trophies. Did a more than respectable job at Swansea and then a fantastic first season at Forest and for me a decent season in keeping them up. His record is respectable. We’ve shown before with Rodgers (I think it was a good appointment but went in too long) and Maresca that the club have tried to get in managers that aren’t the easy opinion. We’ve clearly tried to convince Potter to no avail. I think it’s harsh to say we don’t want him, if you scout 5 players and only get your third choice, doesn’t mean you didn’t want him. I personally think reasonably we are going to have one eye on next season, it would need a miracle to stay up considering the circumstances. And he’s proven a good championship manger and played good football. Corberan I would be happy with, but clearly there is a sticking point. We are looking at him and something has obviously made us question it more than Cooper and it doesn’t necessarily have to be about Money. He might not have interviewed well, who knows.
  14. Going from watching House of the Dragon to The Acolyte, is like reading Cathcher in the Rye and then reading a David Walliams book.
  15. A fair post Ric.
  16. So I was right, a total punt. Nobody knew how it would turn out, take away your hindsight and you wouldn’t have been saying that at the time. And kept them up, when up against it from the start.
  17. But that’s likely to happen anyway isn’t it. We were guff and scraped through under Maresca come the end.
  18. At the time the bloke had a total flop of a record and was a massive punt.
  19. Because we’ve tried other options first
  20. He implemented it perfectly at Forest in his first season. I always thought they were very entertaining when I saw them that season.
  21. His promotion team wasn’t negative or risk average. 3rd top scorers and 2nd best defense from where he took over is outstanding. People forget the shit hand he was dealt in terms of losing so many players from the promotion team and then the total mess of a transfer strategy. Everyone on here had them down as a dead man walking upon promotion. So to keep them up way way above expectations. He’s always preached wanting to play good football, but I don’t think he’s one of them like Maresca who wants to force it no matter what, from his comments he’ll do what he needs to first to get to that position. If it’s him, I have no idea how it will go. We’ve been surprised many times and I hope we will again. I certainly don’t get the total distain on here for him, I think it’s well over the top.
  22. Let’s be honest, this place specialises in being spectacularly wrong. So fingers crossed.
  23. Really… never thought of that.
