  1. West Ham are exactly the kind of mentalists that wouldn't flinch at covering his £100k per week wages. I think our days of handing out that kind of wage, especially to fringe players, are over.
  2. Had no idea he was still involved in the game; Pleat stepping back from Tottenham scouting duties David Pleat is stepping back from his scouting duties at Tottenham after more than two decades of association with the club. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: “I should like to thank David for his contribution over so many years and in so many ways. "He had, and continues to have, an encyclopaedic knowledge of the game and players. I know he will continue to enjoy watching our games at all levels.” Pleat became the club’s first Director of Football in January 1998 before leaving the role in May 2004. He then returned once again in 2010 as part of the club’s scouting department. The 79-year-old said: “Football is my life and continues to be. Spurs has been a huge part of that. However the game and its methods change and it’s time for me to now step back from my scouting role. "I look forward to watching the club have great success in the coming years. I hope to continue my association with the game.”
  3. Bit of a Speedwagon by all accounts.
  4. Poor chap must've been dehydrated with the BBC making him cry every 5 minutes.
  5. Peaty daren't lose after this build-up.
  6. Balls of steel from Murray and Evans.
  7. Merc have accepted it. https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12526/13186145/belgian-gp-lewis-hamilton-inherits-win-as-george-russell-disqualified-for-mercedes-car-being-underweight Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, speaking before stewards had made their decision, said Russell's unplanned one-stop strategy had been the likely cause of the issue. The fact Russell's tyres were more worn than those who had done two stops meant that by the end of the race they would have had less rubber on them, and consequently weighed less. "I think it was the one-stop… you expect lots of rubber, maybe more, but it's no excuse," Wolff said, while also admitting the incident would be a "massive blow" for Russell. Following the FIA's announcement of the disqualification, Wolff released a statement confirming Mercedes would not appeal and apologising to Russell. "We have to take our disqualification on the chin. We have clearly made a mistake and need to ensure we learn from it," he said. "We will go away, evaluate what happened and understand what went wrong. To lose a one-two is frustrating and we can only apologise to George, who drove such a strong race."
  8. Russell is indeed DQ'd and Hamilton gets the win.
  9. Russell's race win is under threat because the car may have been underweight. Hope they don't take it off him. Yes, it was a lucky punt but he made it work although I can understand why LH is miffed as he dominated that race.
  10. Scored against Croydon yesterday. Gerrimin!
  11. The thread that will not die.
  12. Tbf Jordan Ayew is amongst the best in the PL at pressing. The bloke runs about non-stop while he's on the pitch. Still wouldn't want him here though. Not when he's nearly 33.
  13. Why would you think that? "I arrive in this club to play with this idea. The moment there is some doubt about the idea, the day after I will leave. It's so clear. No doubts."
  14. Rain is making the women's road cycling TT treacherous.
  15. It used to be tradition in our household to have commentator Harry Gration remind us every 4 years the difference between Waza-ari and Ippon in Judo.
  16. You talking about Souttar or Okoli?
  17. I see Apple TV have made a TV series adaptation of Terry Gilliam's classic film Time Bandits. Bet it's nowhere near as good.
  18. Considering both he and Nelson would likely be competing for the same spot in the team he's probably trying to put him off coming.
  19. I'll be honest and admit I've not seen much of him (but then who has?). But I'd always be wary of players like this. Good attacking stats on the face of it yet nobody has thought enough of him to put him in their starting lineup on a consistent basis, even the clubs he was loaned out to (Hoffenheim 5 starts in 23 appearances, Feyenoord 10 starts in 21 appearances). Something doesn't seem right there. Is he a bit lazy defensively or summat? Can he not press?
  20. Caught a bit of the game yesterday and she started singing Madonna's Like A Virgin on-air. Couldn't help but wonder what Richie Benaud would make of it all if he were still with us.
  21. The guy is nearly 25 and has started only 58 games in his career in all competitions - yet has somehow managed to bag a £100k per week contract. Kudos to his agent.
  22. Makes it look like they've been paintballing.
