This league is basically Coventry alone, a few truly dire teams at the bottom, and everyone else dogpiled in the middle. At least 80% look like mid-table sides, including all three promoted teams and us. With a bit of a hot streak and a decent January window any of about 15 clubs could be factors for the playoffs. Is MC the answer? I don't know - the evidence is mixed. But he's 100% been dealt a crap hand.

Once you get past TOF wage bills are almost a wash in the SPL. Hearts are middle of the pack, less than a third of the OF clubs. They are an established side as compared to what we were, but this would still be a totally out of nowhere title.
-
Not only that, they were looking at relegation at this point last year. I don't think the LCFC comparison is that far off.

Man, Heart pulling a Leicester would be great.
-
Absolute cracker of a match, this.
-
Given the state of the league, with Ricardo healthy and Ramsey in the team we're good enough to be in the mix for promotion. No question about it.

How has Carranza not scored there ROFL.
-
Great header by Vesty there. Serious power on that.

Viking terror in Wales a thousand years later.

Two things can be true. Faes was stupid to give the referee a chance to make that call. And it was never a penalty in a thousand years. Fortunately Fatawu righted the ship. We look pretty dangerous with Ramsey and James in the middle.
-
Rudkin is basically going to choose who it is, so that seems unlikely.
-
Let's see how we look with Ramsey in the side. He's a potential difference-maker and gives us qualities we're severely lacking with the current bunch.

It's fascinating how the Marti out crowd believes all our players are shyte and that we have the best squad in the division, and sees no contradiction in those two positions.

Rory's answer here is indicative of why he's such an exceptional public figure, as much as an athlete.

It's going to be interesting with Rory. He's not a "live for golf" guy, and he seems to let down when he accomplishes something huge in his career. This year he's crossed off probably the two biggest white whales on his golfing resume - will the fire still be there? Also, what impact will this horrendous week have on his relationship with US galleries in future? Like it or not, that matters.
-
Rory isn't out there celebrating yet. He may be pretty broken by all this.
-
Hard to say, but the issue Rory was exhaustion I think. 5 matches in 3 days, under a barrage of horrible abuse.
-
Thankfully the crowds don't seem to have been as bad today.
-
Well, that got way more tense than it should have.

It's a very difficult course normally - it's hosted multiple majors including the U.S. Open. The problem is that Bradley set it up to be as toothless as possible, reasoning that it would help his side, more used to target golf on the PGA tour's weekly stops. But that's obviously backfired, partly because it's become a putting contest and the Euros have putted much better. And also because Bethpage's only defense when it has virtually no rough (the greens are among the flattest in the US Open/PGA Championship rota) is its length. And in a reversal of historical trends, the Euros are communally a longer-hitting side this time.

OTOH, maybe the land that invented soccer hooliganism and perfected racist chanting shouldn't be lecturing anybody on fan behavior.

Keegan is not Bryson. He's gung-ho but generally a guy who respects the history and traditions of the game. I guarantee you he wouldn't have wanted things to go this far. But as the old saying goes, "if you pray for rain you better be ready for the mud". I blame the PGA of America more for the obscene spectacle this had devolved into than Bradley. But I also blame them for choosing him as a captain when he clearly was the wrong choice - without even an interview, mind - based on a reality show and deserved remorse over his being left off the '23 team. He would have been far more use to this U.S. squad as a player than as captain.
-
They have no idea who the opponents are when they do the pairings. Rory will be glad it's Scheffler, I'm sure. They're good friends and Scottie will be one of the more displeased about the way things have gone with the crowds. He might even make some overtures if things get too out of hand tomorrow.
-
I could point out that the majority of Americans didn't and don't want this. And about how out of whack things are around the world, including most European countries. Society is bottoming out all over. But unfortunately America's political system is what it is, it's the ones making homophobic taunts on Long Island who make the most noise, and that's the face America presents to the world. It's the worst I've ever seen it and I see obvious path to it getting better. But in terms of golf, the Ryder Cup ought to look at taking administration of the 2029 even out of the PGA's hands and giving it to a neutral body, or just running it themselves.

What a disgrace this has been for the U.S. (my native country) in every respect. The performance obviously. The crowd behavior, obviously. But also the PGA of America for allowing both those things to happen. Bradley has been another catastrophic choice as captain, and they've done nothing to try and control the ugliness of the environment. It's reflective of the leadership in the country and where American society is, and is going. And that's a f***ing depressing proposition.
