I think his issue is he doesn't excel at anything. He's not a great defender, positionally, 1 on 1, he's not a great runner of the ball, he's not a threat going forward. He plays it safe, and can even make that look problematic. He'll have odd games where he snuffs out a potent attacker, or where he puts in a few good crosses in a game, but it's nowhere near enough to cover up his deficiencies.

Cos he's a spent force. Celtic fans are pretty unanimous that he should have gone last season and he's done at the level. And that level is the fxxking SPL!
