I haven't seen the state of the pitch but heard it being slated by talksport when I was driving. What I will say is, surely the club make some extra money from hosting these events. Putting out a poor pitch isn't a great look if you want to host more opportunities like this. In the current world of PSR and our own situation we need to make the most of any extra opportunities to earn money not throw it away to other clubs that can host events like this. Plus from a club POV it just allows more negativity to spread thats completely avoidable.
