Yeah, some of the stuff he was coming out with felt like “foreshadowing” of what he’d do as an owner of the club. I think that’s the big issue with any potential new owner is that we’re ripe for asset stripping (especially in League One). I doubt we’d get a ‘project / sporting ambition’ style owner because we’d be a very difficult club to get there now given all the financial controls in the way; plus, we’ve already achieved the ultimate most unthinkable goal. We’re not like a Bristol City / Wrexham where just reaching the Premier League is an exceptional achievement for those clubs.

I don’t believe either of these statements have any proof behind to say they are 100% true - they are guesses, but wild ones. King Power is a multi billion pound business, so it will have significant leverage available to it. I’ve seen no suggestion that King Power are unwilling to underwrite the club like they have previously. The clubs 2025 accounts are due to be released over the coming months; a better assessment as to the financial position of the club can be made then.

Think Glazers at United. The club owns its ground and two training complexes that have a lot of valuable land attached to it. There are also potentially a lot of valuable player assets coming through the ranks. So it’s conceivable that an investor with little interest in; 1.) Using their own money 2.) developing the club; could leverage those assets to help purchase the club / take value out of it. The one thing you can’t criticise King Power on is putting money into the club. That can’t be guaranteed for any new ownership group. I get the sense Methvan might see an opportunity for himself here - and that talking up the prospect of liquidation/relegation strengthens his hand. There’s no doubt relegation would result in a much reduced valuation of the club - and it’s also clear that continued fan unrest with the owners heightens that possibility/stregenthens his hand towards a potential deal; so I would take his two recent interviews with a huge pinch of salt. If he’s the perspective new owner (or head of it) there’s a serious argument to be had that say’s we’d still be better served by King Power.

It does sound like this Charlie guy has done his due diligence; to the extent you wonder if he’s positioning towards a bid for the club? However - I do get the sense he’d be an asset stripper type of owner.

I don’t think that’s realistic. For one, I think the suggestion of administration / liquidation is over stated. King Power might not be willing to put the sort of sums into the club that they have previously to cover the clubs overspend, but I don’t see any prospect of them completely pulling funding in the short term - medium term. It’d make little sense for them to do that for such a high profile asset; especially one that could be sold. But anyway - say if administration was to happen - even then, your suggestion is unlikely because any consortium would probably need to show available funds of around at least £100 million to convince an administrator the bid was backed by sufficient available capital to sustain the club for a significant period of time.

PSR was introduced in the 2013/14 season. And we were overpaying on wages compared to what the club could normally afford based on its turnover even back then. We were doing it in the Championship too. Remember the Sven era? But even under Pearson - our wage/turnover ratio was incredibly high. However - the majority of this over-spending has been underwritten by King Power via debt to equity swaps. Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) will replace PSR in the Premier League next season. I think we’d have struggled to comply with that too!

This isn’t correct based on what you were responding to. Even with our title winning side our wages to Turnover levels were in the 90% range - and we hadn’t really begun the ‘selling an asset’ phase either - that came afterwards with Kante, Mahrez, Drinkwater and Maguire as the main ones. That title winning side also got bumper new contracts - with this being under Top Senior - to start the trend of even higher wages to turnover. This means in reality, the PSR problems were already baked in prior to Vichai’s death - and then exacerbated by Covid.

He didn’t enjoy playing in a back 3 that’s for certain. You could tell he wasn’t fully sure of his surroundings, where to press / close - especially when having to defend out wide.
