I'd say it's quite clearly a plan to extort the full fee from Sheffield United, whilst keeping the player relatively happy if they won't pay up. He'll be on board with this, because whilst Souttar is a very good defender, a ball-playing CB he is not. I imagine RM isn't too bothered whether he stays or goes as there's pros and cons to each scenario.

Sitting in one of the seats right next to the dugout was really interesting. RM can't stand Thomas, that much is clear. He was shouting back at the bench that he had "had enough" of Thomas' lack of aggression after about ten minutes Despite his post-match comments, he was furious for much of the game at how slowly we were playing. Not sure that's due to a lack of desire on the part of the players to play that way, but more a lack of ability to do so. Players such as Jakub, Okoli, Souttar and Thomas simply aren't up to playing how he wants, on the ball - or in Thomas' case, at all.
