  1. I was lucky enough to attend Indian Wells this year. It's been a bucket list thing for me so I splashed out on tickets for quarters, semis and finals. It really is a stunning location, and watching Draper win it was a pleasant surprise. Shame the bubble burst in Miami.
  2. Given my location I only get to a handful of games a year. At the back end of 2023 I'd got tickets for the Leeds game which at the time was on a Saturday. I thought I'd easily make it as I was flying in on the Friday, but thanks to SKY the match was moved to Friday night. So my journey to the game was something like: cab from my apartment to Sydney airport, check in, flight to Singapore, flight to Heathrow, pick up a car, pick up some keys and have lunch in Berkshire, drive to Leicester, drop the bags at the Fieldhead in Markfield, drive into the city, have a quick Turkish meal on the Narborough Road (very nice too), and walk to the ground. Total journey time about 42 hours I think. My other half was really chuffed about it I did something similar in 2016 for the Everton game (a must see) but at least I was in England for 10 days or so. I got chatting to a girl in a Leicester shirt queueing for the plane in Sydney, who was going to England for 24 hours. She was flying Sydney-Dubai-Birmingham, having lunch with her parents, going to the game, having a nights sleep then doing the return journey to Sydney. Hats off to her!
  3. is that a typo or are you copping it at home?
  4. Of all the clubs, you'd think our glorious leaders would know that possession means very little. We won the league with 42%. Another case in point, Newcastle just thrashed Spurs 4-0 with 27% possession.
  5. I think you're right with the Norwich parallel, we were never quite the same after that. It would have been our 14th win in a row, in the Premier league & EFL Cup. Hard to imagine now.

    Daka

This has probably been pointed out before, but his "celebration" is turning out to be quite appropriate.
  7. Yeah, I can see why you might think that. It's pretty jaw-dropping to be honest. Utterly pointless tactic.
  8. The kick-off just about sums up our tactics this season. Straight back to Ricardo and Winks, no more than two yards away from each other, who exchange four passes (what's the point?) then one of them flicks it back to Vestergaard whose first touch is poor and almost gets himself in trouble. If that's modern football/Enzo-ball, you can keep it thanks.
  9. I could have written that myself, except I've been watching them for 51 years.
  10. Makes you wonder how they cope with a high scoring game. I bet they'd still get the hot girl in there. It's amusing to watch the highlights of pretty much any Sheff Utd home game recently. Some poor editor desperately trying to squeeze all the goals and near-misses into three or four minutes. What they tend to do is just use the final pass leading to a goal, so you miss most of the build up.
  11. Look, I can't help it, alright? It's what I do The la Liga "highlights" we get here also include 20 seconds of the final whistle blowing and players shaking hands. Probably not the best use of their 3 minutes.
  12. As an occasional highlights editor myself, I'd noticed exactly the same thing. The three minutes of waffle at the start of the extended highlights is a waste of time. And at the risk of sounding like an edit-nerd, their audio cross-fades are crap.
  13. That would make sense. Thanks again.
  14. Thanks. My girlfriend's parents live in Townsville, Qld and got chatting to an old man who lived near them. My visits to Leicester came up in the conversation and his eyes lit up. He said his name was John Sherwood, that he'd played a couple of games but "wasn't good enough to play more", and that he was a neighbour of and friends with a young Gordon Banks. I never got to meet him because of Covid and he passed away in 2021. I had a look through the squad lists for the period but couldn't find his name, so wondered if his story was true. Maybe he never actually made the first team.
  15. Very long shot, but any of the more ancient fans on here ever heard of a guy called John Sherwood? Supposedly played a couple of games for us in the 50s, 1953 I think.
  16. Goal from Savage. One of several narrow victories without us ever looking particularly convincing. I remember wondering how on earth we were in the top 3 and thinking it was never going to last.
  17. I was lucky enough to go to one of the first matches they played together, away at Charlton. Even then it was obvious how good they both were and they looked as though they'd played together for years. I remember thinking they hunted as a pair...if one went in for a tackle the other was there to mop up. I can't remember who they replaced but it was an immediate big improvement. Think Claridge got his first for us that night too.
  18. That really was the pits. And being 2-0 down at home to Leatherhead was a close call.
  19. Wow! Now that's a blast from the past. I thought it was miles better than Subbuteo too. You had much more control over the ball, even if it was a tiddlywink

  21. I know. That's why it'll be so amusing
  22. Looking forward to showing your comment to a Celtic supporting colleague. Should be amusing...thanks ;)
  23. Sorry...forgive my cynicism
  24. Didn't we just have the "climate change election" where people said it was really, really important and then voted for tax cuts and negative gearing?
