Pedro Porro is like the new Bruno Fernandes. Rat-like behaviour.

This is like 2016 all over again. Carnage.

Surely Sterling should be booked?!
-
Romero off and Van De Ven injured. Is this where Spurs start dropping points...
-
How does an official in this country see that and not think it's a red. It's studs on the shin ffs. Edit: glad Oliver got that right.
-
Romero should be off. That's a leg breaker.
-
How's the referee calling that Such a harsh offside.

How come?

Lucky goal for Sterling with the ricochets

Early goal for Spurs

I think more is made out of it these days because there's a much bigger focus on 'tragedy chanting' and trying to eliminate it. I don't mind them making a news story out of this (again, it's a big club that moans to the authorities for something to be done) but as long as they're consistent with all fanbases/clubs doing it. Not just because it's Liverpool...

He wasn't taking the piss though. The strap legit broke as he was getting ready. All of that is moot anyway as by the time the strap did break, he was over the 2 minutes. Not sure how much by, but nonetheless he'd probably lost any leniency the umpires were willing to give him by that point. Don't think he was taking the piss. Don't think it was time-wasting but if the umpires have to uphold the laws of the game, he'd gone over the 2-min limit to be ready to face a ball after they come into bat. In saying that, if Bangladesh wanted to uphold the spirit of the game and not create so much controversy, they could have easily just told the umpires not to allow him to be timed out and let him stay once the helmet had been swapped. I think the point about Matthews staying around without his helmet whilst facing spin is irrelevant because of the time-limit already being surpassed and Bangladesh were happy to let the umpires do their thing. For all we know, Matthews might have asked that of the umpires/Bangladesh but they said he has to go. Don't think it's much different to change gloves/bat but usually that's done between overs. I remember earlier in the tournament a player wanted to do it after 2-3 balls within an over, and the umpire said no because they'd only just had a change between overs. -
Agreed! I have a very trusting boss, but it's company policy to have monthly 1-2-1s and a mid-year appraisal as well as end-of-year appraisal. The latter used to be worthwhile as it would dictate what bonus we'd get, but now we don't get a bonus and just a pay-rise which everyone gets. So someone who just does the bare minimum in their job, would end up getting the same payrise as someone who works their socks off despite relentless pressures or unsustainable workloads... It makes wanting to work more and 'prove yourself' or go 'above and beyond' totally worthless as the incentive to do well (in a financial sense) is not there any more.

I'm pretty sure one of the Tory MPs a year or so ago said that people should save their benefits for a deposit on a house As if people had anything left after all the bills and rent was paid...

He's got some nerve considering the apology he had to dish out to an NHS doctor earlier today or over the weekend. 'get the homeless off the streets'. Just like that, right how about make it easier for them to access affordable housing. Bet he thinks it's a valuable lifestyle choice as well the absolute pleb.

This annoys me about pundits and commentators. They're so quick to say, after a replay, that it's so clear a player is offside. But I doubt in real time on the sideline that it's actually that easy or clear to see. What's easy for them to see on a replay is probably still marginal in real time.

Until they sharpen up VAR and the advantages it can bring, and what technology can bring, then stick to the human side of refereeing and leave it at that. VAR is now creating too many errors regularly. Whether that's down to incompetence or ambiguity of the rules, or a combination of both, it's still causing confusion amongst fans and officials. I know there's the issue of time taken to review decisions, but for me that's not even the biggest issue. It's the fact that decisions still lack clarity and in fact cause more debate as opposed to clearing it up. 'clear and obvious' is now left up to subjectivity and causes too many blurred lines. The consistency is now VAR errors and howlers, as opposed to being able to commend a referee on good use of the technology available and seeing more games where referees aren't talked about. They need to bring in the semi-automated offside. It works so well, speeds things up and there's very little debate afterwards. You can't scrap VAR in the middle of a season but I'm glad for this season we don't have to worry about it. It's easier to just move on with a decision in the Championship or where a game doesn't have VAR and therefore have less fuss. Like with the Choudhury/Summerville incident - don't care about it now and to be honest stopped caring a day after. Ref dealt with it, gave the yellows and that was that. With VAR the debates just rumble on and it's frustrating when the PL feel the need to have a programme to discuss decisions, and even then sometimes they still can't agree.

Turning out to be a good game. Good chase close to being well executed by Bangladesh. -

This changes my view a little, actually. The fact he wasn't even ready before the chin-strap issue is quite important. He was already beyond the 2 minutes. -
Yeah but just wake up when you need to, easy...

Yep, top 8 here qualify for Champions Trophy, so there is something riding on it for both teams. It broke as he was about to take guard. Seemed okay up to then. -

Yeah I'm surprised Bangladesh upheld their initial appeal. It's quite clear Matthews was pretty much ready, then his strap broke. Harsh to appeal on that basis. I doubt it happens at any level of cricket, let alone international!
