    Depression

Really struggling atm. The worst thing is seeing my Wife in such a state, she had a complete breakdown in the supermarket and is inconsolable at times. I'm trying a go at normality and planning/working as usual but it's so hard to do when your sleep is virtually non existant and your skill and concentration levels are poor. Losing my fil has been a blow as he was a brilliant sounding board/fixer. Trying to cope with his will is tiring too, speaking with accountants, solicitors and all of the ordinary organisations he dealt with, Sky, BT, insurance companies etc.
  2. Do you think this is likely to change in the near future, new incoming government and all that? The plans I've seen from Labour don't give me much hope but they haven't released their manifesto yet so one can hope. I've recently had my 3 phase connection (already have solar) completed so I would definitely give it some thought if the incentives were there.
  3. What's the general concencus on the UK TV license? I don't have one atm but only because I haven't got around to it. The house we bought was empty for about 4 years before we moved in and there were literally hundreds of unopened letters which we opened and sent to appropiate people. There were also many letters from the TV licensing agency, some addressed to the householder and some to the previous occupier. I was a little shocked to see how aggressive some of these letters were, actually threatening to come on a particular date to investigate in person and take action. I can imagine elderly or vulnerable people being quite anxious if they received these.

    Covers

I remember the original Jimmy Cliff version of the harder they come (also used in a 70's film of the same name if I remember correctly) and I saw him live a few times, the most memorable being at the 1983 Nyon Paleo festival on the banks of Lake Geneva. Love Black Hole Sun by anyone but no-one beats Chris Cornell.
  5. Not brilliant. Everyone I spoke with said pretty much the same thing. There’s a very slim chance of a win, costs to me around £150,000. A loss with partial blame, costs to me around £600,000. Full loss, costs to me up to £1.3 million Speaking with another barrister later in the week, supposed to be one of the best in the country. 30 min phone consultation, £450 + vat I’m hoping the more I spend at this stage, the better the outcome. Thanks for the concern, I feel pretty crap atm.

    Depression

Well, after the death of my fil and potentially losing everything we own I’m being pushed to a place I don’t want to be. My wife is inconsolable, she’s an only child and lost her dad only weeks ago and now this. She hasn’t eaten or drank properly since Saturday and is barely sleeping, in constant tears. I’ve never seen her like this. Most of the legal advice I’ve had is pretty horrendous, best case £750, 000 plus legal fees of £120,000 if we manage to make the injured party partly responsible. Apparently next to no chance of winning outright. These are specialist solicitors. Have an appointment with a very aggressive (and expensive) barrister on 29th as he’s on holiday until then.
  7. That's what I believed but barrister says otherwise. I'm speaking with solicitor tomorrow so will take this information and ask. Thanks for taking the time to find this, much appreciated.
  8. Sadly no. I just checked all accounts. This man has basically ignored my instruction and done something to cause himself a nasty injury but it seems that the law is on his side. Spoke with a friend of a friend who is a barrister dealing with these types of claim and he said we're done for. Even if we were to win the case and prove his lies we would still be liable for costs which could amount to over a hundred thousand. if we lose then we're basically bankrupt... These no win no fee systems are incredibly cruel, as a defendant we lose either way. I'm going to see a specialist solicitor tomorrow (£200 per hour)
  9. I wish. He’s accepted responsibility verbally to me, his work colleagues were saying at the time what was he up there for anyway, we were told it was out of bounds.
  10. Just to add, this happened 13 months ago but just received the letter. He’s called me several times to let me know how he is and said to me that it was his fault and he should have listened to me. Obviously changed his mind now.
  11. Any legal experts on here. long story short, I had a company in to insulate and plaster house. They used sub contractors. One of the team went into a barn where I was working, fell from a landing on the external staircase and broke his leg very badly. He has now instructed a claim blame solicitor and is suing me as he will never work again. I have no house insurance so I will be responsible for any payments. Important: When the team arrived on site I went through a talk with all of them explicitly stating that they should not be in the barns or outbuildings as they weren’t safe. I also warned the injured party as he walked up into the barn not to do so and that the railings weren’t safe but he continued. His letter states that he went there to ask me something about the job which is a lie, he told me at the time he was being nosey and just wanted a cigarette. Everything I’ve read online says I’m fvcked. anyone been in a similar situation?
  12. Typical, everyone has said the same thing 😂 Nobody wants 100+ goldfish…
  13. 😂, we bought the place 18 months ago in a dilapidated condition and the garden was massively overgrown and neglected. Didn’t even know where the pond was. Once I’d cleared it I realised that we’d bought an absolute gem of a property. The estate agents have been back to see us and are amazed.
  14. No, I want a native wildlife pond. I don’t want to run a filter system or anything like that. There’s a huge filter system in the trees behind the pond and at least three pumps in the pond, one of which runs a waterfall but I don’t want them.
  15. Flight prices during school holidays. Taking Grandkids to our place in Cyprus as daughter and partner are both working during the summer. Nearly £3k for the flights for two adults, two teens and a 6yr old... Very annoying that you have all the additions during the booking process
  16. I gave this man money... He had a massive presence on Twitter at the time
  17. Went to my pond at 6am this morning with a cuppa. There's a single Koi, about 18"+ long and between 100-200 Goldfish... Probably have to buy a drag net and try to catch them, take them to a pet shop/garden centre type place and see if they want them...
  18. On mine, I scroll across the watch face, click settings then vibration and audio, scroll down to on wrist calls and make sure its on. Check your phone bluetooth to make sure they're connected. Mine isn't a Sense 2 but must be similar

    Houses

Thanks for the replies. I’m going to have the conversation but give them as long as they need to find a place but probably look for a BTL buyer in the meantime. It’s a 3 bed semi, new build in 2016 if anyone is interested in an investment 👀 I know it’s a better financial investment to keep it , at least until the market picks up but we just don’t want to be landlords at all. We have an interesting project (3 barns on our land) to put the money towards so it will be useful in that regard.

    Houses

Ethical dilemma. Due to recent death in the family, my Wife and I have inherited 2 houses. The bigger house is in trust until step-mil either passes away or decides to move but the other has a sitting tenant. We don’t want to be landlords so want to sell asap, tenants can’t afford to buy it but I met with them and they’re petrified of trying to find a new rental. They’ve been model tenants for seven years and I’m gutted for them and feel responsible. Has anyone ever sold a property with sitting tenants?
  21. Moved into our place 18 months ago. 3 acres completely overgrown with 5ft high brambles, saplings and undergrowth. Spent the first winter clearing by hand, absolute killer. Ended up with Tennis Elbow in both arms and a knackered back, still have problems with the elbows.
  22. That’s why I suggested suet blocks, no seed to drop so nothing on the ground 👍
  23. It’s a difficult one. You could try suet blocks in feeders that can’t be easily reached by larger birds, no large perches etc.
