Crap last two weeks. Father in law died suddenly, was more of a really good friend than anything though. I’ve been supporting my wife and mother in law through their grief and dealing with all the legal stuff too. I’m sole executor and it’s been a complete ballache so far. Funeral Tuesday so hopefully have some normality back. I’ve spent the last two days working in the garden in the sun, really helped with my mental health, not talking to anyone and just occupying my mind with my surroundings. Done me a world of good.

Mostly but not strictly, I’ve watched males take wood pigeon. Sparrows are indeed threatened and are now a red data species. I have sparrow nesting boxes up so have several colonies.

This is a Gos I stalked early one morning, been taking chickens for a few days, same time every day. Caught in the act devouring a young hen. I worked with Goshawks in the 90’s with the RSPB, finding nests and ringing youngsters, incredible birds. One of the most persecuted birds of prey, gamekeepers hate them and I’ve seen dozens killed by poison, shotgun or trapped and despatched.

Almost daily occurrence here. Went out a couple of weeks ago to find a Buzzard sitting on a Great Spotted Woodpecker. It’s funny how they’re called Sparrowhawks, they seem to take everything but Sparrows in my garden. So far it’s been Blackbird, greenfinch, Siskin and Collared Dove but mostly Blackbird and Siskin.

I’ve spent years under the stars. Can count the number of times I’ve used a traditional campsite on one hand. Favourite way to do it is by open boat, all gear in barrels as you can be gone for weeks 😂. I do own a couple of 1man tents but normally just use a tarp and goretex bivvy bag. I use an MSR stove burning Coleman fluid or similar.

I use a Sonos sound bar with two play 5’s and a subwoofer, play my music through the same. Have more Sonos speakers connected wirelessly around the house so can choose to play anything anywhere.

Not gears to change speed, just gearing to change the direction of drive. I might be miles away but I remember variomatic gearboxes that worked in a similar fashion, it meant that they were as fast going forward or in reverse (used on Daf cars, amongst others). Edit: turns out I am wrong. As the motors on an EV are AC three phase, it’s actually really simple to make the armature spin the opposite way by flicking a switch which I presume changes the polarity. I was right (in theory) about the reverse speed being equal to the forward speed though, sadly the spoilsport manufacturers have fitted limiters.

I don’t know but would imagine it to be done with gearing.

Nobody is saying that is the only reason, it is, however, a legitimate reason.

Plenty of people requesting microwave meals at food banks @FoxesDeb beat me to it 😂

Or can afford the energy bills required to run a cooker/oven (if they even own one!)

I’m enjoying it and it’s getting good reviews. I think it’s made number one on some of the book reviews recommendations.

Fully agree. Food poverty is a real problem, just look at the offers and reductions in supermarkets, almost exclusively junk/processed stuff. Fast food outlets selling fries and a burger for a few pounds which make up 50% of the average daily recommended calories but contain lots of fats and sugar and very little of benefit. When I mentioned ethical food shopping, I was referring to people not understanding (or caring) where and how their food is produced. The prawn one is a good example (not going to go into detail here), in fact most sea food. I fully recognise that I’m in dangerous territory here as I know we all love a treat and it’s difficult to change long held habits.
