Sorry I should have said Russian People's PoV. They have been told this a special military operation to remove the Nazis in power in Ukraine, that they are dangerous and want to kill all Russians in Ukraine. We know that's bullshit, but I wonder how many Iraqi and Afghan people would say the same about the motivations behind those conflicts. We were lied to about the reasons for going in to Iraq in the same why Russians are being lied to about the reasons for invading Ukraine.
-
From the Russian PoV this is about regime change.

Kante owed us one more season at least, regardless of sell on clause. We'd just won the league and he left us for a team not in the champions league. Any chance of really building on our league win fell apart when he left. I'm not angry with Kante but it fvcked us over way more than Mahrez's tantrum and departure. Mahrez gave us another season and a half after winning the title before getting pissed off at the way he was treated by our occasionally incompetent board.
-
I think any sell on clauses are typically only on the profit. So even if there was one they made no profit so we see no money.

I'm all for the first anti-protest but the second bit was just being a dick. Hopefully it has given JSO an idea for meaningful protests targeting the right people. A rape alarm/helium balloon in the house of commons or the Tory party conference. Now that's something we can all support.
-
This is the biggest problem with JSO. They are not protesting against Oil, despite the name. They are protesting the governments decision to grant hundreds of new oil licenses despite the government saying they would not do this. All it needs for the protests to stop is for the government to simply do what they promised to do at the Paris climate accord.

I think it would depend on how much you injured someone. Typically in legal defences the term reasonable force is used. If you bruised someone with your car squeezing past to get your dying child to hospital it would probably be classed as reasonable force. If you ran someone down because you were late for a vasectomy (i.e. a non urgent optional medical procedure) I think they would take the view that it was unreasonable.

If it's life and death I would have called an ambulance. Oh wait ambulance waiting times are at ridiculous levels due to gross mismanagement and under funding. If I was stuck in such a situation, assuming I was at the front of the blockade to be able to run them over, I would first try and talk to them. If they weren't listening I would get out the car find a clear spot and call an Uber or ask a stranger. I've imagined myself in the situation in the video where it looks like an A road in London with junctions. The M25 would obviously be different.

And guess which week I was out the country in grey and drizzly Connecticut for a week. I even joked that I was missing our one week of summer. I didn't realise I actually was.

But isn't technology also a big part of the problem? As much as green technologies are improving things the amount of energy used to host data centres to stream your films is huge, the energy and resources spent on upgrading infrastructure is also significant and the demand is only going to get greater. Then you have the ridiculousness of things like bitcoin mining. Using a crazy amount of energy to perform a pointless task in exchange for a digital token that may or may not be worth more than the energy spent to mine it. The frustration is not just old energy inefficient technologies (which are often still better to maintain for their full life cycle than replace early with newer more efficient models) but so many new technologies and practices are being made without the environment being a primary consideration. Built in obsolescence being one of the worst culprits.

We only throw away food that is not safe to eat but we throw away 10x as much food compared to before kids when we had the time and head space to plan our meals and keep track of the food we had the dates and how safe to reheat etc. As for sheep: "Many people think beef is the worst type of meat for the planet, but lamb—aka baby sheep less than one year old—is even worse. The EWG says it has the highest carbon footprint of all meats—one that's "50% higher than beef." And there's a reason for why cows and lamb have such a high environmental impact compared to chicken and turkey. "Cattle and lamb are what we call ‘ruminants.' In the process of digesting food, they produce a lot of methane," said researcher Hannah Ritchie in a . "If we removed methane, their emissions would fall by around half." According to the EGW, the reason lamb outweighs beef in terms of environmental impact is because lamb "produces less edible meat relative to the sheep’s live weight," the study reads"

To be honest I'm just giving my reaction. I'm not angry that a baby got delayed on the way to hospital because it pales in comparison to the anger I have for the people JSO are protesting about. The crimes of delaying a few emergencies pale into insignificance compared to the crimes against the people of this country over the last 13 years. I don't know if it makes me an apologist, but I find the reaction to one delay to one emergency to be over the top when thousands of people are facing delays to emergency medical care every day. As I said, be angry, that's fine, just be proportionally angrier at the ***** ruining our country.
-
Yes, do be, that's the point.
-
Delays to medical care is delays to medical care it is a valid comparison. 1 baby Vs thousands of vulnerable people. They were not consciously delaying a baby getting to hospital. That was not the purpose of the protest. The government is consciously under funding the NHS, under paying the NHS staff (hence the strikes) and lying to our faces about opening new hospitals and consciously issuing new oil licenses despite saying they wouldn't. I'm not saying don't be angry about them delaying a baby getting to hospital, be angry, be very angry. However consider the number of children put into poverty by this government, consider the ridiculous lengths of waiting lists now and the horrendous mismanagement of the COVID crisis and consider these same incompetent liars are the very reason for JSO protesting and how easy the solution is to stop JSO (if you're not sure all the government need to do is what they said they would with regard new licenses). Consider all that and decide who you should be really really fvcking angry at.
-
Potentially yes. (Although I was also being slightly flippant in some of my responses above)
-
Haven't you heard A.I. will do all the jobs. One of the greatest burdens on the planet is over population. The problem is capitalism kinda relies on it so we're fvcked whatever we slice it unless we can find a limitless source of energy.
-
Yes, regularly, that doesn't mean we do or have done everything we can but it is a constant consideration. Admittedly we've fvcked up all the good work we used to do by having kids* but we have used cloth nappies on them. Admittedly that is a pretty insignificant change but more importantly it is very visible so everyone can see what great human beings we are as we carry around brightly coloured turd smeared fabric bum coverings to wash at home at our own inconvenience and expense. * Not only are kids a massive drain on the planets resources we now use at least a cow's more milk every week and we're too drained to prep and cook nice fresh low waste veggie food so we now eat meat cos it's easier and throw away 3 times as much food that's out of date.
-
How should they take it out on the government? Disrupt the country they govern?
-
Arguably arrogant and incompetent but not really selfish in that they are putting the needs of the planet ie everybody ahead of their own safety and freedom. There is a very simple solution to stopping JSO and that is the government doing only what they said they were going to do. There are no further demands (at this time).
-
Not missed the point, might not have articulated my point well, but I've not missed any points made by anyone else. Delaying a baby getting to hospital = not good Delaying urgent medical treatment to thousands = considerably worse. The prospect of a man made climate catastrophe = truly horrific. Yes be upset by a baby being late but be proportionally more upset by greater problems caused by selfishness, ignorance and incompetence.
-
Thank you, I was struggling to find a way to articulate a response, but that nicely sums it up. Obviously not ideal to delay a baby getting to the hospital. Every day we have congestion and traffic jams delays and disruption on roads and rail caused by poor transport infrastructure. Thousands more are having their treatments delayed and cancelled due to gross mismanagement of the NHS. If we're going to get up in arms every time someone is delayed getting medical care we're going to be angry a lot.

All true and I agree the impact will be felt, but the actual direct casualties from the fighting will be minimal, unless it escalates significantly. The political and economic impact of the war, including the migration, will have a greater impact than the deaths of 250k-500k soldiers.
-
There will be an impact felt but 250k is only about 1% of the males between 18-44. (140,000,000 population 34% 18-44 assuming 50/50 gender split = 23,800,000 males 18-44). Although the latest figures have put the number of deaths at around 50,000.

You can't be responsible for how someone spends their money. The fact the guy is allegedly a crack addict is not really relevant unless Huw took advantage of that. You buy something off eBay and the seller buys smack with the money. It is not your problem. As for the £35k. Onlyfans allows people to request content from their favourite content provider and can offer to pay a lot of money for something specific. I couldn't imagine having a kink that I'd spend £35k on but I just need Google images and search for boob GIFs and I'm done by the third one.
