True America does have culturally closer ties, but there have been many senseless killings and subsequent protests in the US that have not created much traction over here and have not created worldwide movements. The nature of the killing of George Floyd and how the witness videos were shared on social media left nobody in any doubt about what a despicable act of police brutality it was. This lead to a movement which spread worldwide. Whilst by the sounds of it this was equally senseless, there is enough hearsay, conjecture and unverifiable witness statements which will always lead to doubt and speculation that the police had just cause and that these riots are not about the death of a young man but more about the state of the French society and as such it is not our business. It also doesn't have a snappily titled movement behind it. Justice for Nahel is not as wide ranging and unifying across borders as Black Lives Matter.

It just made me sad.

There are clear distinctions between the deaths of George Floyd and Nahel Merzouk. Whilst both examples of police brutality leading to the death of a minority. The shear brutality of kneeling on someone's neck while they call for help until they die is pretty hard to not be moved by especially when it was widely filmed and shared and as such it sparked a global movement. Whilst the death of Nahel has clearly sparked something in France I don't think the persecution of Muslims by the French police resonates in the same way as US police brutality does over here. I'm in no position to say if it is comparable and that's kinda the point.

That's quite interesting, I do tend to notice that Leicester are largely featured in header images in the BBC sport website. I always assumed it was because there was a Leicester fan on the BBC sport team. This might explain it.

I mean first of all it is not garbage you absolute heathen. Putting something cold on something hot, makes hot thing colder.
-
Granted dipping into ketchup alleviates the problem somewhat. However, nice hot bacon sandwich + a good dollop of Ketchup from the fridge = cold bacon sandwich. No thanks.
-
Lots of people keep butter outside the fridge because it is rock hard at fridge temperature whereas at room temperature it is easy to spread. This is proper butter not margarine or spread.
-
But do you want to put cold ketchup directly on your hot food?

I am fast coming to the conclusion the human race needs to go back to the dark ages. It feels like every advancement we make we turn it into the worst possible version of itself. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65932372

The prevalence of money is not the issue (money is a man made construct and we can always print more money), it's the availability of resources and the sustainability of the whole of humanity living in comfort. For example I remember a statistic from a few years ago that if every household in the world had a fridge it would be an environmental disaster in terms of the resources needed to make and run an extra 0.5 billion fridges.

By the sounds of it she went private so it depends on how you classify skipping the queue. There is nothing on the BBC to suggest there was any sort of preferential treatment. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66014781

1 year Loan moves out for some?
Captain... replied to Outfox the Fox's topic in Leicester City Forum
This is a hypothetical thread about a possible loan option that other clubs in our position have used and whether it is something we should be looking at. We've already had: fvck the players, they can **** off, p*** off, drain the swamp. You're allowed to show emotion but it is so boring when every possible discussion is just slagging off the players. -

Because he's missing out on a big fat signing on fee and most likely a wage increase if he signed permanently for Fulham or anyone else. -

Why so angry? In the case of Aaronson at Leeds it is going to be the club hedging their bets not the player thinking they are above anything. They can't afford the wages in the championship but don't want to be forced to sell a player on the cheap, this deal suits Leeds and a player that doesn't want to be sold to balance the books. Fair play to Aaronson I know a number of players who wouldn't agree to such a deal. -

I don't think we have anyone good enough on a long enough contract to make it work. If Nacho had 5 years left on his contract then maybe it would make sense. He's not going to be snapped up by a top 7 club and if this is a 1 season blip he is arguably going to be better off at newly promoted Leicester than Brighton or Villa or Fulham come August 2024. However with 2 years left it just poses too much risk for both club and player. -
The point was, here is an article researched and written by an organisation with a proven track record on journalistic standards and it explains how and why this debate has come out and has actual sources and quotes to back it up. If you are going to say that that article is wrong and that schools are allowing children to identify as cats you need to have something to back it up that has even greater degree of journalistic merit and a higher level of source evidence. You can't refute a researched article with, "There's a kid at my daughter's school that identifies as a cat!" Whilst there is anecdotal evidence of kids identifying as cats and there are possibly some kids out there that genuinely believe they are cats. There is no evidence that schools are indulging this, using their cat names and providing cat food and litter trays.
-
The guardians take on this child identifying as a cat nonsense: https://www.theguardian.com/education/2023/jun/23/child-identifying-as-cat-controversy-from-a-tiktok-video-to-media-frenzy Just goes to show it is all just culture war bull shit and anyone who genuinely believes that there is a school where a child is allowed to identify as a cat needs to actual provide some evidence and not repeat all this bollocks that has been spread by those with a very thinly veiled agenda.

But it does help you to not engage with said user.

Dark humour is quite a British way of dealing with things. I think that most of the jokes I've seen have been laughing at the absurdity of the situation rather than delighting in the deaths of anyone. It's a part of our culture, you've got your guns we've got our twisted sense of humour.

The term you're looking for is c.u.n.t.

I completely missed that one.

Agree to an extent, however you can't avoid it it is top story on most of the news websites and bulletins. It's being shoved down our throats on news feeds etc. It is of interest because it is ongoing and people want the updates which triggers the algorithms that promotes it up the bill creating a feedback loop as we click again because there is a live rolling news feed. However other more important news gets buried in the algorithms because it is not sexy enough or doesn't have the repeat click value. I think news should be ranked by importance and relevance not determined by clicks. We've got the COVID inquiry ongoing and interest rates rising, but the search for this sub is the top story, with Musk and Zuckerberg fighting in a cage trending in the news feeds. Because it's not about what we're interested in it's all about what we will click on. There is 0 actual interest in 5 strangers in a submersible and if the story was 5 people die in submersible it would be there and gone within less than 24 hours. It is news companies feeding into our morbid curiosity by pumping out live feeds and countless updates telling us nothing new just to drive traffic to their sites.

The last couple of protracted rescue stories have had successful outcomes. Chilean Miners and Thai boys in a cave. If this goes south I wonder if the media will reassess how they report these things.

Wow that's a bleak film.
