Guest Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Will we ever see the publication of The Winds of Winter - the next novel in the Game of Thrones series? Every year the date is put further back. The publishers confirmed in January that it will NOT be published this year. Martin claimed in February that he'll finish it in 2016. I think we'll see an uncompleted novel released after Martin's death. He's 67 looking more like 77 and seems too distracted by his new found fame to concentrate on the book. Worse than that it's not even the final instalment. So what do you think? When will it be published? For those who have been waiting so long I'd like to recommend the Malazan series (10 books) by Steven Erikson. I think you'll enjoy.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Think that's a little unfair to say the fame is distracting him, he's clearly getting stuck in as he doesn't want the show to overlap the books. My prediction would be 2017 tbh, so tempted to read the preview chapters but just don't want to spoil it

Haydos Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Probably remove the spoiler in your OP, not very fair on those that watch the show or haven't finished the books and read this.
Guest Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Probably remove the spoiler in your OP, not very fair on those that watch the show or haven't finished the books and read this. you are such a whinger. The title makes it clear what it concerns. If you're looking at a thread that concerns a later book than you're on expect to see some info. If you're watching the TV series why are you even here? Get back in your box.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 This is going to be his biggest release considering how much the show has boosted the book audience, I'd rather him taking it slow than rushing it.
Babylon Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 FFS... nice spoiler. And no the title doesn't make it clear what it's on about, people watching just the show what the hell "The Winds of Winter" is about. Mask out the spoiler!!!!!!
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 The first book was published in 1996 so his rate of releasing novels is pretty much the same as it has always been. This is a story and universe I love to be in but I wouldn't want GRRM to rush through to the end, there are about 30 separate storylines going on around Westeros, Essos and Slavers Bay at the moment and I want each one to come to a satisfying conclusion.
ADK Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Thought this was going to be about another 5 years of the Tories.
ousefox Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Thanks for that top spoiler in the first post you baloonhead

Thanks for that top spoiler in the first post you baloonhead You should have read the other books by now - don't worry maybe they'll change the TV series they have with quite a few other things.
Babylon Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Thought this was going to be about another 5 years of the Tories. So did I...
The Horse's Mouth Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 the show and the books are completely different entities now anyway, so it's hard to see whether the show has spoilt the books or vice versa.
Carl the Llama Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I can't see a spoiler in the OP, presumably been edited out now. Did someone mention Sansa's death by any chance?
Babylon Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I take the viewpoint now that any character I like will most definitely die anyway.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 I can't see a spoiler in the OP, presumably been edited out now. Did someone mention Sansa's death by any chance? Sansa's great.

Think they're doing a better job of it anyway tbh, the plot has seriously wandered in the last couple of books.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 Is she the one who is reborn in book 5? Think you're talking about Cersei there, mate.

I strongly disagree with the producers doing better though.
Bryn Posted 8 May 2015 Posted 8 May 2015 What is nonsense, your response had nothing to do with what I said. I strongly disagree with the producers doing better though. You said he was clearly working hard to avoid the books being overlapped with the show. He is quite clearly out partying like mad whilst allowing the TV show to arrive at his ending however they please.

Well, the producers have always had more power over him and there is always been tension between them since The Red Wedding. However, this year he skipped comicon, didn't direct his annual episode so it's clear he's been working on it more. Though with the show's new bizarre directions he doesn't really need to worry a part from the ending, which he hasn't got a chance of catching up in time by.
