Forget being bottom at Xmas - this is what is incredible

Just look and wonder (especially as the game in hand was against Chelsea)

A lot of talk about teams being bottom at Christmas. What about 7 points adrift with 9 to play and being told those above you competing for position 17 will be picking up 10 points in six games!

QPR and Burnley picking up five and four points respectively in six games is an appalling form.

Hull follow with only six in six.

But there's always Newcastle with one in six... lol

Someone said last night this was the biggest turnaround (points wise...from relegation bound, to near safety) in the history of the Premiership.

Is that right?

Wigan's run was v impressive as they went from bottom to 43 points in the end but that was over a 12 game period - started mid February I think

Lads is 6 wins in 7 games our best run ever in top flight english football ????

Would love to see the posts from preseason where we were discussing the final eight games and how we might get the points we need to stay up from what looked an easy run in! could anyone have ever imagined ............

I had given up compleatly ... But then again the league form at the bottom has defied all logic to win 6 out of 7 and still only 3pts off religation shows what madness has been going on ....

Shame the Chelsea game got moved, we'd be on for 8 in a row.

Mentioned this yesterday to my son as we walked away from the ground. We would surely never have won six on the bounce so probably a good thing Chelsea was shoved in there.

I heard this too. Something like no team has ever stayed up after having only 19 points at the end of March

It's still not certain. 2 losses and we probably go down. Beat sunderland and we stay up!

No team has ever stayed up with fewer than 20 points after 29 games, to put things into perspective. West Ham had 20 points after 29 games when Tevez et al pulled off that escape. So we would create history if we stay up. In fact our points total after 29 games is the fifth lowest ever in the PL at that stage.

Not really. Yeah, Newcastle have been completely rubbish. But look at the other 3's points per game. A little bit under 1. So for them to average 5 points from 6 games is actually completely in line with their whole seasons.

Fans (along with players, coaches, and the media) have been going on about this very thing quite a bit.

The only reason why the "Christmas" thing comes up is because it's one of those sort-of rules of thumb about the Premier League (that usually, but not always, is true). Being bottom at Christmas is a quasi-traditional death knell just as people go on about 40 points being the target for safety according to conventional wisdom, even though there have been exceptions.

I wrote this column before the run. While it wasn't all right, it does describe most of the key things that have keyed our success.

http://www.premierpunditry.com/2015/03/top-five-things-leicester-city-needs-to-do-to-avoid-relegation/

At the time I can honestly say I wasn't expecting it, but some of the seeds were there. In no way did I expect the needed points total to be as high as it likely will be.
