EGBFitness Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 Wondered if any referees had publicly came out with the teams they had supported? Surely the FA aren't allowed to let them referee games involving a team they support too!? YouTubed Mike Deans celebration last night against Villa and seen he had done the same a few years back for Spurs v Arsenal. Is he actually a Spurs fan?
Leicesterpool Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 I would find it difficult to believe any referee that said they didn't support team even when they were younger.
EGBFitness Posted 3 November 2015 Author Posted 3 November 2015 I would find it difficult to believe any referee that said they didn't support team even when they were younger. Totally agree. Like anyone in sport there must be a reason why they are participating in it whether it's professionally or just leisurely. Surely all if not the majority of referees followed football when they were younger. If I made it to be a professional referee and got put in charge of a Leicester game I would probably be more favoured to let decisions go our way or show some emotion with a goal etc
Fox92 Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 Highly doubt Mike Dean supports Tottenham. He's from Liverpool isn't it? I don't think he is celebrating those Spurs goals, I just think he's celebrating his decision/s as strange as that sounds. Weird.
ousefox Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 Can people not clearly see he is signing for the advantage?
Fox92 Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 Can people not clearly see he is signing for the advantage? Yeah he is signing for the advantage it's just strange because it looks like he's celebrating his decision

I'm not saying your wrong but just because of where someone lives doesn't mean that they support their local team.
Fox92 Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 I'm not saying your wrong but just because of where someone lives doesn't mean that they support their local team. I know that. I was going to post that but if you're born and bred Merseyside you've got two big clubs there!?
EGBFitness Posted 3 November 2015 Author Posted 3 November 2015 Yeah he is signing for the advantage it's just strange because it looks like he's celebrating his decision https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StRVqK7xgw4 I'd never seen the one against United before lol They are certainly some animated reactions with all 3 clips.
EGBFitness Posted 3 November 2015 Author Posted 3 November 2015 I know that. I was going to post that but if you're born and bred Merseyside you've got two big clubs there!? You could be right and there is 2 big clubs to choose from, obviously it's normally very split you either choose one or the other but same as with Manchester and even London, there's some big clubs to choose from in those areas but some will still support someone somewhere else. Most United fans are Londoners
DB11 Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Referees can referee the team that they support. They just can't referee the team that is registered with the County FA that they are also registered with. For a local example, Kevin Friend is registered with Leicestershire FA and you won't see him officiating any competitive Leicester City games. Yeah he is signing for the advantage it's just strange because it looks like he's celebrating his decision He probably is celebrating his decision! Do you know how much extra marks you get awarded by the assessor for playing a good advantage - and what is a better advantage than a goal?
Vicki Vixen Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Also why are almost all referees in the Premier and Football Leagues white middle class British born men? I understand the historic reasons for the lack of women, but why the lack of officials from different backgrounds? Seems like you have to fit a certain stereotype to make it as a ref in this country.
filbertway Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 I know that. I was going to post that but if you're born and bred Merseyside you've got two big clubs there!? Got a great point there @dousefox why are you on foxestalk? @@babylad92
Fox92 Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Babylad doesn't post anymore and I didn't think Scousefox was 'born and bred' in Liverpool ?

Why is a sterotype being brought into everything? Perhaps there's many reasons? Uriah Rennie refereed at the top level in this Country for ages.

Uriah Rennie refereed at the top level in this Country for ages. You say perhaps there are many reasons. That was why I asked the question! Interested to know if anyone on here knows the reason(s). I was waiting for someone to trot out the anecdote that once upon a time a top referee was a black man from Sheffield. So well done on emphasising my post.

Nobody here can answer that question though, we can only guess, because none of us work for the FA. But I just don't understand why race is being brought into it again. If you're a decent referee you'll get selected and if you're a rubbish referee you'll not get selected, just like any job regardless of race.

I very much doubt they're all middle class at all. And perhaps they're mostly white because the people who want to become referees are mostly white.
RonnieTodger Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 You can't believe he was actually celebrating, surely. He's the biggest shit of all the referees but he's not that stupid

I was responding more in the context that the EU has freedom of movement of labour and pretty much every industry in the UK has workers from other EU countries. So why not the FA?

So why not the FA? Maybe not many people from other EU countries have applied to work at the FA.
