Hollism Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-35207451 Massive fire close to the Burj broken out in the last few hours. Apparently there's >100,000 gathered nearby for the new year fireworks. Judging by that photo you'd expect the building to come down sooner or later
Tuna Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 It seems astonishing that the fire could engulf the entire skyscraper in such a short space of time. Looks like it has spread up the elevator shaft. Its unlikely the fire would damage the structural integrity of the building enough for it to collapse, unless it was caused by an expolosion.
MPH Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 Hope everyone got out alive and a question must be asked for a building that size..... was the sprinkler system working?
Guest Kopfkino Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 I know quite a few people from Dubai at uni and a lot of them will be in that vicinity. Hopefully there's no injuries or casualties
Larry_LCFC Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 Don't these modern skyscrapers need all sorts of fire prevention systems in place these days? Got so out of control so quickly. Will be a miracle if everyone made it out unharmed.
MPH Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 They were supposedly going to use over a ton and a half of fireworks tonight.... Wonder if these are the source of the ignition!
Matt Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 They were supposedly going to use over a ton and a half of fireworks tonight.... Wonder if these are the source of the ignition!I don't know much about professional displays, are they mostly 'electronically triggered'? But even so I would imagine that'd cause almost a domino effect set the whole display off if it was?Love Dubai and know a couple of people there atm, they only this afternoon posted a picture up the Burj.

Thats assuming it was already set up/// just wondered if they were maybe stored somewhere in the building. Either way... seems too conincidental for this to ber an accident and the fire is way too big and got out of control too quickly so im beginning to wonder if there was an accellerant, if not the fireworks....

The fireworks are suppose to be on the big building across the way. I doubt they'd use a packed hotel as storage. Who knows.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 My mate is on placement and he's in a hotel right near it. He's snapchatted a video of it, looks crazy.
Fox92 Posted 31 December 2015 Posted 31 December 2015 The New Years celebrations went ahead as planned.
