Bigger Picture

I think the majority of us all thought the same and were completely annoyed when the final whistle went today. The way they did it made it worse for me and it's taken me a few hours to stop blaming Danny Simpson etc.

Right now, and having looked at the bigger picture, I feel ok about the situation.

Out of the last 4 tough games, we got:

9 from 12 points

9 goals

2 conceded

And we are still top.

Our next 9 games are, supposedly, easier opposition. (Never easy opposition but it makes me feel better) And then the final run in against a poor Man U, a poor Everton and a Chelsea, who seem to be getting better.

As for Danny Simpson, he was wrong to be jumping in on Giroud when he had a yellow card, although a little harsh but he's been solid really.

Come on boys, let's keep on taking a minimum of 9 points from 12 and we'll finish with a minimum of 80 points.

Chins up then, always high and proud to be a foxes fan!

Agree with your summary but I don't think Simmo should of been sent off. To get sent off a for a very light tug of the shirt is scandalous. But we are still in a great position and everything is still possible!

I agree, it was a harsh decision to send off DS but he should be experienced enough to realise he's on a yellow and he's running the risk.

Loved that Bukta shirt!

Danny Simpson.

How often do we hear commentators say something like "if he hadn't already got a yellow card, he would have got one for that?"

Yes , it was a foul. Was it worthy of a yellow card, slightly questionable - but I think the ref was already losing control of the match by then.

A lot worse than this goes on several times every match in the penalty area, without as much as it even being a foul.  Refs either just ignore it as that is safer than awarding more penalties than in a rugby match, or politely ask the player not to do it again.

Worthy of a yellow card and sending off near the touchline, but not even a foul most of the time in the penalty area. There is something wrong somewhere.

Pulling the shirt or the man is supposed to be a mandatory yellow

You can argue about consistency but that would be a different debate. A lack of professionalism imo and doesn't stack up against Claudio's comments last week about the intelligence of the squad.

I think if anything, it's just sad that this was the game where we had individuals sorely let down the team. Simpson let down his team and his manager by not being careful with needless fouls, and Wasyl betrayed the team with his stupidity.

It's one of the softest two yellows you'll ever see. I counted at least 5 tackles in the 1st half on the Man City vs Spurs game that were all worse than anything Simpson committed that went unpunished in terms of a card.

Atkinson could've remained level headed and chosen to give him a final warning but the inflammatory response of the Arsenal players swayed his decision.

In terms of the bigger picture, I firmly believe we're in this title race until the final week of the season. (If we haven't already wrapped it up by then.)

I don't disagree. Atkinson was utterly abominable, for both teams (but we got the worst of it). I mean, Claudio directly criticized him, and who'd ever expect that (and him to probably get reprimanded by the FA)?

But there are some things we can control, and Danny could have been more measured to give away such a second cheap foul. The fact that it came so soon after the first was what was killer.

By the letter of the law yes, but then by the letter of the law Coquelin should have been booked for the second time and sent off, when he ran over and pushed Mahrez when he was going off, but he was never going to be brave enough to do that, with all the stick he had been getting.

By the letter of the law, all 6 or 7 Arsenal players who jumped over the hoardings  left the field of play to jump in with the fans, should have all been booked, but common sense was applied, in that case, although i think he may have booked Welbeck.

Unfortunately, the Ref let the pressure from the Arsenal players and fans get into his head, and where as in most cases he would probably have called Simpson over and warned him for a last time, because he was already on a yellow, he bowed to the pressure he was put under.

It was a shame because i think we would have gone on to win had we kept 11 players out there.

It was also a shame for the game, because it turned what was a good game into a training exercise of attack v defence, but what is done is done, and we move on to the next one now.

Stupid is fair enough, but betrayed is too much. Big Was has been a good player for us, all in all. He was magnificent against Everton.

And as for Simpson, if you look at both fouls again, I would suggest that is one very soft sending off.

I feel your pain though. We could have won today, and dealt a shattering blow to Arsenal.

It's beyond stupid, betrayed probably too much though, I get it. But I wonder what we were all thinking after this group collectively defended for 40 minutes and were let down by such a dumb dumb decision.

Big Was has always been seen as a bit of a walking time bomb, although he has managed to get away with some extraordinary stuff in his time. He is a bit of a cult figure.

The other thing I would say is that the defending of the subsequent free kick was dreadful, although repeated viewing of the goal may offer a better perspective than mine. I can't quite face that yet!

I would be really gutted if that was his last appearance in a Leicester shirt. Beyond stupid is also fair comment.

The bigger picture is now a big club (Arsenal) actually see us as a threat, you would have thought they had beaten Barcelona today with all their antics today, with 11 men we held our own. This season can be a launchpad for us and attracting players in the summer should be easier.
