BoyJones Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 Not Banks, never my favourite player. Very error prone, which is conveniently forgotten, for the great saves which tbf he did make from time to time. 50 years ago this Saturday, we let a 2-0 lead slip at Maine Road to draw 2-2 in the 5th round. The following wednesday, we lost the replay 1-0 thanks to a horrendous error from Gordon Banks. Let a straight forward shot squirm under his body, a la Shilton against Poland in 73. We were one of the favourites that year, but threw it away. I have forgotten plenty of games, but sadly I can still see that goal going in. Might not be nice to say, but was well glad when we sold him.
gw_leics772 Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 Same answer as the bring back a player thread. Matt Oakley and Clapham. Maybe Leon Crncic just so I can see what he looked like ;o)
dylanlegend Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 Lineker for me. Not just for his playing career but mainly for leading the consortium that stopped us from no longer existing. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/sports_talk/2352541.stm
Vardinio'sCat Posted 4 March 2016 Posted 4 March 2016 Banks statue - how about one of him picking the ball out of the net after Len Glover spanked one past him from 30 yards, when he had defected to Stoke. He defected did he... Would you like me to google that for you?

It's funny because England were still one of the big guns of world football at that point, but threw it away. Somebody ought to tell Pele quick, because apparently Banks was rubbish all along... I bet all the fans were saying Banks, with his freshly minted World Cup winners medal, was a bit of a liability, and we should get an unproven 16 year old in. Maybe you have forgotten about that bit too! Imho, you've got your Tomaszewski's in a twist there mate!
