jonthefox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Following on from another thread . So , can we make this happen?. Any ideas on cost ?. And who do we need on board ?.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 I've always thought a statue outside our ground would look superb, and it would be a great way to celebrate having such a legend as Gordon Banks featured in our club history. Having said that, there's plenty of other legends/upcoming legends to choose from as well.
wattolcfc Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 A statue of that famous photo of him and Shilts would be brilliant
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Claudio on the shoulders of Vardy and King, standing on top of the crumpled bodies of Harry Kane and Claude from Arsenal Fan TV.
jonthefox Posted 2 March 2016 Author Posted 2 March 2016 Maybe we could buy Stokes statue of him. That was lying idle in some school the last I heard.
Lestoh Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 What we need is a bench 'In loving memory of Conrad Logan'
bluebeau Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Personally I wouldn't want a statue of Banks. He hasn't shown any loyalty to City, he has no allegiance to us, so why put a statue of him outside the stadium? When did he last make an appearance at The King Power, I don't know the answer to that but I can't recall him showing his face nor at Filbert Street. I can think of plenty of former City players that I would sooner see remembered with a statue of them. e.g. Gary Lineker, Steve Walsh, Emile Heskey, Junior Lewis etc. If you guys with young/teenage kids were to ask them about Arthur Rowley, they would most likely reply, "Who?" So in years to come the same will be asked about our present heroes, therefore imo DEFINITELY NO STATUES..........end of! Having said all that, Banks was a truly World class keeper, but so was his successor at City......Peter Shilton.
FoxinNotts Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Would love to see this. I would gladly chip in a fiver to see a statue of our World Cup winner. Something not many clubs can boast. We should do more with the history which our club has.
Leicesterpool Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 How about Craig Levein? No seriously either Gordon Banks or Keith Weller.
Rob1742 Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Absolutely would not want this. He hardly ever visits our club, has no connection with it since he left in 1967, oh apart from popping back for one of his many testimonials back in the 90's. Horrendous idea and if we were to have a statue of someone, pick someone who has a connection with the club afterwards. Steve Walsh would be a good example. Why have a statue of someone who wasn't local and didn't keep a strong connection after he left. No disrespect meant by this, but I would prefer one of Walshy who was with us for many years, and has adopted our club as if it was his own.

Guest CityFan 06 Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 To be fair I can understand people being against statues of certain players, and although difficult if the supporters could try to agree on a majority vote for a particular player to have a statue, it would probably be easier and quicker to make this whole idea happen. The difficulty is, is that there may be some fans who do not want a statue at all. I may be wrong on that though, I'm not too sure, but it's hard to please everyone I suppose. If fans do still want a statue though, maybe a poll of some sort would be a good solution/starting point to the statue subject. At least that way all supporters have the opportunity to give their opinion on what they would like to see.
Tim'llFixIt Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Let's wait until the end of the season and have one of the chaps in today's team or ranieri ... they could make history that would be worthy of a statue
Fox_in_a_Box Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Oh so he only comes back when we're top of the league. Where was he when we were playing Hereford in league 1? Glory hunter.
My Nads Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 What we need is a bench 'In loving memory of Conrad Logan' lol
My Nads Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 How about Craig Levein? No seriously either Gordon Banks or Keith Weller. We could have pictures of Levein, Hollowhead, Beckford, Wise etc... printed on the urinals. Not sure about a Banks statue. Walsh is more of a Leicester legend for me and he'd be my first choice, but it's a generation thing. I'd have a Vardy statue too, but not until he's retired. In a few years we will have a few more candidates for statues, after we have won the Champions League so there's no rush.
Aus Fox Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 He visits the stadium all the time, growing up I had about 10 programs with his autograph on. I used to always wait with my program for autographs outside the players enterence at Filbo. He was there a few times every season. The only player in our history to win the World Cup! Can only think of Shilton, Lineker and the two Authors who could rival him in terms of success.
Grewks Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 Has to be Ranieri if we win the league. It would be the biggest achievement the club has ever made.

In my opinion, Banks was better than Shilton.
