Leicester the new Atletico?

Think we can be? Defensively we are at least comparable obviously not as great as they are but their team is built on hard workers, going after every ball, never giving up. Sitting back and getting teams on the counter.

I mean more of being consistent each year and being up there near the top rather than CL winners but do you think we can keep this blueprint and build on it going forward with more money expected to be spend?

There's a lot to admire about Simeone and Atletico but they're s completely different kettle of fish. They're a massive club in their own right; the equivalent of Arsenal challenging for titles and performing well in Europe. Our likely achievement is much more impressive given our context.

I think we'll do okay in the Champions' League. At least a couple of English clubs tend to get through the group stage and a last 16 place seems about the average. No reason we can't match that, especially if we are seeded, as looks likely.

That means Spurs are Madrid, huge expectations, expectant fans, spend lots on flops they have to shift a couple of years later but ultimately they're perennial failures, even if they do have a lot of possession and score a few times a game.

Atletico are the third biggest team in Spain and with the unequal distribution of TV money there, it means they can maintain their position far more easily than we can. Financially, I suspect we are behind the top 8 in this league and in the long run, that might mean we'll slowly slide down to more familiar territory.

Guardian seems to think we could be, although they are streets ahead of us to be fair. We have only been playing like this since losing 5-2 to Arsenal and Simeone's mob have mastered it. Watching it last night I did wonder how effective Vardy could be in Spain playing in that side. Think he'd be outrageous.

I am fascinated to see what kind of side wins the Euro's to see if this is a triumph of will, spirit, workrate or the start of a move away from the possession heavy 4-2-3-1 as the dominant style in European football. More likely it is a combination of both but I hope it is the latter.
