LanguedocFox Posted 7 May 2016 Posted 7 May 2016 I think it shows the class of the bloke. He could easily have been on every tv and radio show as well as numerous paper pullouts in the last week but he hasn't. I'm sure he is absolutely delighted that largely his lads have gone on to achieve this, as well as his good friends on the staff. I'm not sure you can overstate the man's influence on the title win. The scouting team was assembled by him, the players almost to a man assembled by him, the sports science attitude was brought into the club by him. The fast counter attacking style of play was introduced by him at the back end of last season. Claudio has added to this by introducing a tactical nous that Pearson did not have, as well as bringing a charm to his approach to the media. The best way to describe it is as like we have had 2 managers, with ones past work continuing to provide the foundations to allow the current team to flourish. I agree, especially with the last sentence. We'll never know if Pearson could have done what Ranieri has done, but Ranieri could not have achieved what he has without Pearson's groundwork. And that takes nothing away from Ranieri's achievements this season - not the least of which was keeping Pearson's squad and back-room team together.
davieG Posted 7 May 2016 Posted 7 May 2016 Nigel Pearson praised for Leicester's title success LEICESTER, UPDATED: MAY 07, 2016 8:09 AM Vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha says he had to sack Nigel Pearson but he deserves credit for the Foxes' title success. The club will lift the Barclays Premier League trophy after Saturday's final home game of the season against Everton after being 5,000-1 shots at the start of the campaign. Ex-boss Pearson was axed last summer less than two weeks after his son James was sacked following a breakdown of his relationship with the owners. James Pearson, Tom Hopper and Adam Smith were dismissed by the club following an investigation into allegations they racially abused women with whom they were engaging in sex acts in a hotel room while on a club goodwill trip to Thailand. Nigel Pearson was replaced by Claudio Ranieri who, despite being tipped to be the first manager sacked this season, led the Foxes to the title and Aiyawatt, known as Top, felt he had to make the decision to dismiss Pearson even if he laid the foundations for their unlikely title win. He said: "I understand the situation but it's happened. We have to fight the right way for the club so I had to make the decision. "It's difficult to say (whether they would have won the title with Pearson) it's a different way to manage. That's why I give credit to all the ex-managers, Nigel Pearson and Sven Goran Eriksson. "They are all part of it and I thank everybody, success or fail. It's a learning curve for me and the club."Read more at: https://www.clubcall.com/leicester-city/nigel-pearson-praised-for-leicesters-title-success-1809352.html?
Alf Bentley Posted 7 May 2016 Posted 7 May 2016 Sven..... That's a stretch.. I suppose he did recruit Kasper (and Nuge, looking back?).... Still a stretch, though!
Tuna Posted 7 May 2016 Author Posted 7 May 2016 Sven did turn us around lets not forget the Scunthorpe game when we were bottom when he took over. The rest well yes nigel spent 18 months shovelling up the shit sven left behind. 4 year Gallagher contract was the tip of the iceberg! But he did leave us konchesky, Nugent and kasper and brought through schlupp and consistently played kingy.
Alf Bentley Posted 7 May 2016 Posted 7 May 2016 I do wonder whether Pearson regrets being such a berk.[...] I have a feeling he's probably so arrogant he thought he was probably right doing what he did. [...]. In that case, I'm surprised you don't feel a deep and eternal bond with him, Col. I think it shows the class of the bloke. May we compare the Pearson-Ranieri relationship to the Taj Mahal or to a Christmas cake? I feel we may! Taj Mahal: Nigel, his staff and his team produced the architectural plans, painstakingly laid great foundations and erected a superbly solid, resilient structure. To this, Claudio, his staff and his team (often the same people) meticulously made a few crucial architectural changes, before adding beautifully ornate turrets, tiling, plasterwork and the rest. Between them, they created a splendid palace. Christmas cake: Nigel baked the most wondrously firm yet moist fruit cake base. Claudio tested it, tasted it and recognised that he had inherited a world class fruit-cake (the squad set-up, not Pearson! ). He carefully kept that cake in the best possible conditions, added a layer of tasty marzipan and some splendidly crisp, ornate icing. At the final of the Great British Bake Off, Nigel lifted Claudio aloft....as Claudio, in turn, lifted the trophy aloft. Imagine having 2 managers that good in succession. Most clubs haven't had 2 managers that good in their history! What would either have achieved without the other? My best guesses (guessing is all we can do): - If NP had stayed, we'd have qualified for Europe but not won the title - If Claudio had taken over the LCFC squad that NP inherited in L1, he probably would have got them promoted, too - If Claudio had taken over the LCFC squad that NP inherited from Sven in the Championship, he might well not have got them promoted - If Claudio had taken over the LCFC squad that NP took up to the Premier, he probably would have kept them up - If Claudio had taken over at Villa instead of LCFC last summer, he'd have kept them up, possibly achieved mid-table, but would not have won the title.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 7 May 2016 Posted 7 May 2016 Twice this season he has spoken to the media and reminded them that he was our manager before Claudio. Does anyone really need to hear it again? Not for me. I'd much rather hear more from the staff and players at the club who have just won us the premier league title. Basically then, he's a big head.
