Matty Hamez Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 This is way too early to think about next season but I'm excited and you can't stop me. The 8 seeds are nearly set and will look like this: 1. Barcelona 5. Benfica 2. Leicester City 6. PSG 3. Bayern Munich 7. CSKA/Rostov 4. Juventus 8. Real/ Atletico Madrid Leicester are (ceremonially) the no. 2 in Europe, kinda (our current european coefficient of 0.0000 probably puts us somewhere below 2nd). The other pots will change massively based on who qualifies, but pot 2 will have 8 from the following: 1. Real/ Atletico Madrid 8. Bayer Leverkusen 2. Borussia Dortmund 9. Basel 3. Arsenal 10. Shaktar Donetsk (Q) 4. Man City (Q) 11. Spurs 5. Sevilla (EL) 12. Olimpiacos (Q) 6. Porto (Q) 13. Dynamo Kiev 7. Napoli The other definitely qualified teams who’ll fall into lower pots are Sporting, Lyon, PSV, Brugge and Besiktas. The favourites to join them through qualifying would be Villarreal, Borussia Monchengladbach and Roma, amongst all the other usual suspects to fill out pot 4. My thoughts Arsenal and City are 2 of the best pot 2 teams, and we can't draw them. That's good. It also increases our chances of getting Real Madrid. That's...honestly I'm not sure. I'd love to think we were favourites for the group, but remember when the King Power sold out just for a pre season friendly with them? Spurs probably won't make pot 2. That helps us because they might be the best pot 3 team and we can't play them. Hopefully Liverpool win the EL. Sevilla not making it would push Basel into pot 2 and Liverpool could end up the best team in pot 4, which is good for us again. What's your dream scenario? Longing to test ourselves against Madrid, or avoid them like the plague? Leicester, Real Madrid, Roma, PSV? Leicester, Basel, Brugge, Lincoln Red Imps (technically still possible)? Or maybe just 3 lovely destinations for weekend minibreaks.
HighPeakFox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 It's a wonderful thing to think of, and I really don't care who we pull
Jimothy Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Our coefficient will be 15. You get 20% of your countries coefficient and England currently has 75. I imagine if Liverpool win tomorrow it will increase.
Fitbaphile Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Great post Matty. Puts everything firmly into perspective. One thing though. Liverpool winning the EL would mean the market pool is split minimum 4ways. We should be cheering against Liverpool on Wednesday and against Man City when they are in their playoff. (not that we'll make a difference but yeah...) I'll let the captain explain. There are a few factors that can change that, Liverpool winning the Europa League is one, Arsenal/Man City/United not making it through the qualifier is another. There is a market pool that represents the CL TV rights share for that league's country. It is split between the participants of the group stage from that league based on league position. So last season I think it was around £90m, Man City got £31m, Liverpool £23m, Chelsea £21m, Arsenal £17m. The market pool has since gone up massively, so if 4 teams qualify from the Premier League we will get around £50m from that + £12m participation + any extra for points won in the group stage. If only 3 teams reach the group stages, then the pool is split between fewer teams and we would get around £15m more, if Liverpool win the Europa League and 5 teams reach the group stage, we will get about £10m less. The figures are approximations as I haven't seen the final amount for the market pool, nor how it is split. I think the split might even be on points won and not position, so that is motivation to win the league by as many as possible... http://www.totalsportek.com/money/uefa-champions-league-prize-money/ This sort of explains it.
Fitbaphile Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 There's already a Champions League 2016/17 thread. And this.
Matty Hamez Posted 17 May 2016 Author Posted 17 May 2016 Right right. But if you ignore that several things I said were wrong, no one really cares who we draw yet and there's already a thread for it, pretty great post right?
