Well they might, that's why they investigate when there's a death in these circumstances. If we just assume that the police won't use a taser without just cause there'd be no point investigating the incident.

They might have but I don't believe they would have

Well that's a dangerous stance to just blindly believe they can never do anything wrong. It's best to be completely open minded rather than just assume because someone puts a police uniform on they can never make a mistake, or won't do anything wrong.

Personally, unless someone is holding a weapon I don't see the need for a taser. I don't know if Atkinson was holding a weapon, but I've not seen it reported, so I won't assume he was. There's reports he was strangling his dad (allegedly), well if he was why not just go and pull him away and arrest him? That's one of  the things the IPCC will have to look into.

So if someone is bigger and stronger than you, their mental state is such that they are intent on causing harm, they're under the influence of drugs and so cannot feel pain, how do you propose to just go and pull them away?

Police have metal poles that they can use but hitting someone over the head with that would surely cause more harm than taser?

Theres usually about 100 police turn up to arrest a shoplifter, so I'm not saying one guy has to do it alone.

Tasering someone, or shooting them, shouldn't be the immediate go to, risking anyone's life should be a last resort. That's what the IPCC have to find out, if it was. But to just assume the police did and always will do the right thing is not only a dangerous stance to take, it extremely naive. And that's what you're doing, assuming because they tasered him they must have needed to.

Im not writing this as someone who has ever been in trouble with the police, I don't dislike them, and I'm not saying they definitely did anything wrong here, I'm just saying nobody should be presumed innocent (or guilty) in anything until the full story is known.

Perhaps you should re-read what I said. I've even highlighted it in bold for you. Even the post I quoted of yours, which was a quote of mine, that original post doesn't blame Atkinson anywhere - it simply says the police would not have used a taser without just cause.

So when you said, " I mean it's not like the police would have used a taser on him for no reason. It's not like he wouldn't have been posing a danger to either himself or others." you were not blaming Atkinson at that point without knowing what happened?

Hold on a minute, where has all this information come from? Have the identities of the officers involved been revealed? How do you know he was bigger & stronger than TWO people? Has it been said anywhere that he was on drugs? Drugs that make you feel no pain? As far as I'm aware he was on MEDICATION, not the kind of drugs you're post alludes to.

Your allegiance to the Police without a shred of publicised evidence released suggesting blame is worrying. I'm all for opinions but let's have it right, nobody knows what happened that morning yet.

You may well end up giving it the old 'I told you so' after all has been revealed, but I certainly wouldn't want you anywhere near my corner if I ever got into any bother with the old bill.

if you are in contact with another person and you get tasered, does the other person get tasered too?

Only one way to find out. I look forward to your report later.

I responded hypothetically to a hypothetical question - not specific to this case
