We weren't great in that game but on balance of play we should not have lost. I only used the United and Liverpool games as examples as we were very poor in them games but against Hull we should have at least drawn if not won had mahrez not fluffed his penalty. In that list you made only Southampton it could argued are as good as we are. West Ham are garbage but could get better when they sack Bilic. Yes we have a few issues to iron out but it's early days and I still think we will have a decent season. Our performances against Burnley and Swansea showed we can comfortably beat the teams in the bottom half of the table
foxy boxing Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 it was bound to be a massive comedown after last season and peoples expectations are just not realistic. last year the stars aligned for us and this season seems so far away from success. we have to not put our expectations for this season based on last season because we will set ourselves up to be let down. we should still be good enough(more than good enough) for a top half finish that in previous seasons would have been regarded as a big success
Alan lcfc Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 I still say a top 6-7 finish is possible, of course anymore shambolic away performances may dent my confidence, but as burnley beat Liverpool and Watford beat utd, big teams will drop points, even.man city, who apart from utd have had a set of fixtures in which we'd have probably be sitting on 15 points by now, Bournemouth Swansea stoke West Ham.and Sunderland
desertfox2 Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 Think this season will be a record low for staying up. There will be 5/6 sides that take a lot of points. Less points needed than usual to finish between say 8th right down to bottom 3.

We're clearly not bothered about the domestic cups again, so, in reality, we have a total of 6 guaranteed games more than last season (UCL group stage). So, in theory, if we lost the 6 corresponding league fixtures, due to the 'extra burden of playing in Europe', we would drop 18 points. If you reduce that from our total last season, we'd only be 3 points behind last seasons 4th place. Giving likely contenders at the top a lap start in the first month isn't really the best way to defend that argument! Love your figures though. You'd make a brilliant accountant! .
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 This thread is crap. Burnley have already beaten Liverpool at home and look like beating twatford tonight. Bournemouth will be strong at home like last season. Sunderland look the worst side, but they'll pick up points. Palace look strong again, though they'll have their blips. West Brom can win on their day. I think it looks wide open again personally.
crazyleicester Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 My way of working out how a good a side is and a division is by using science. My scientific method is by imagining that I was playing Football Manager and listing in order the strength of the teams If I managed more than half of the clubs in the prem I think Id ship out 90% of their squads! So many clubs have added some players but sold influential players along the way. Bournemouth bought in a load of youngsters and sold a good player in Ritchie. Palace may have added Townsend and Benteke but they still sold Bolasie and Gayle whilst Jedinak was an important player for them. West Hams owners being the cocky twats that they are came out with all the chat about them going for 30m players as last season ended and there transfer deals have been one big frustration so no shocks that they are doing so poorly. Swansea added a couple of players in but lost a couple including another influential player in Williams. I could go on and on really. Add Sunderland, WBA, Southampton, Stoke and Watford to the aforementioned clubs and weak promoted clubs and we actually have quite a crap prem this season. Id say from last season apart from Everton who did good business, the historical top 6 of Liverpool. Arsenal, United, Man City, Chelsea and Spurs only we actually shone on deals and have looked like we have improved. With that, Id say I wouldnt swap our squad with the majority of the prem clubs. Apart from the Football manager science route I always ask what players of our team would make the opposition and which one of theirs would I prefer from our opposition. Apart from the "top 6" I cant see many players from the rest Id want in my Leicester team. In fact, for the first time in the days of MON I can proudly say we have quite a few players that the top clubs would love to have. Vardy. Mahrez, Schmeichel,DD, Gray, Musa, Slimani and maybe Morgan can be imagined in playing for most top teams in. I sometimes think we dont know how blessed we really are with the current crop of players and that so many of them like Musa, Chilwell, Amartey, DD and Mahrez have got their best years still ahead of them.

As for Mahrez fluffing the penalty you mention I wouldn't have bet on anything else. Indeed I virtually pleaded with the club to let Vardy take penalties. Mahrez has many attributes as a footballer but taking penalties wouldn't be one that I'd mention. As for Burnley and Swansea yes, we beat them at home but that's no reason to assume we'll beat them away this season - especially if either of them get a good start and we decide to save our breath for the next fixture!
