We might get top 10 finish by default...!

Is it me, or are the bad teams really really bad so far?? Sunderland are woeful - then take your pick of who is worse out of Middlesborough/Burnley/Swansea...add to the mix the new whipping boys Stoke and then West Ham rattling round clueless in their soulless stadium...

..Palace will do their win5/lose10. The wheels will come off for Hull and then add the distinctly average Bournemouth and West Brom...and by my reckoning we're top 10, easy!!

So its all sorted, we can all relax  :scarf:

The thing is everyone is judging us too much on last years merits. Of course we won the league so any fan has a right to be ambitious but please don't forget we have played arsenal at home, Liverpool and United away so far and got 7 points. That is top ten return really so no need to panick!

And that's how you become complacent. I've seen us play well enough against burnley, Swansea and Brugge to think we will be okay but we really need to be grinding out results and turning losses into draws, especially against "top 10" sides

A top 10 finish...What an achievement for a side which won the league by 10 points the previous year.

Well the post was meant as a bit of antidote to the 'we might be in trouble' forum posts. Whatever stardust was sprinkled over the team last year appears, for the moment at least, to have vanished a little.

There have been moments this season when I thought I was watching Barcelona (20 minute spell against Burnley) and then other moments when I though I watching...well, I couldn't watch, tbh. (insert favourite pub team here)

If you think last year was normal, winning the league by 10 points ffs, and that we could/should be in with a shout of doing the same this year, then good on you

I was feeling pretty down after the game on Saturday, but then realised that a bit of perspective might be in order...

Poor Youngy. If you look hard enough you can almost see the knife sticking out of his back that Stringer left there.

The bottom 10 teams of any season are never going to be anything to be that fearful of.

A friend of mine said after the Watford first leg in 2013 that they would struggle in the Premiership. I replied by saying by playing the top half teams maybe but teams in the lower half would be having mediocre seasons and it would leave an opportunity to stay up.

No doubt about it the second quarter yesterday was as bad as it gets but we have a severe post title hangover and are still basking in a post title glow. Last season was a massive wake up call to the bigger clubs and also to the underachievers wanting a piece of the pie so there was always a backlash coming. No disrespect to Hull intended but I would rather have played a Liverpool or Man Utd away in the first game, taken a pasting and get back to basics.

As it is there is games against Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea and Spurs before a champions league game. That's the hardest set of domestic games of any other champions league team I would safely say even though the group itself is alright.

Up to Spurs we will hit bumps and may take another heavy beating but by the time the champions league group stages finish we should be improving in the league.

For as bad as it is now compared to last year it's still solid by pre-2014 expectations. 12th place is still good going by our modest standards. We've hit a slump for the first time in over 18 months but I cant complain given the journey. I've no doubt the squad will get going again in time. I reckon our squad is more than capable of beating the teams in the bottom half as evidenced by the Burnley and Swansea results.

I honestly believe that there are only 6 maybe 7 teams with a better squad than us. City, United, Chelsea, arsenal, spurs, Liverpool and maybe Everton. Regardless of our poor performances against united and Liverpool we are still better than the other 12 teams in the league. I think we will be fine and people need to stop worrying. Liverpool and united will probably hand out more thumpings this season

Why shouldn't we be expecting to challenge for the top 4 as champions?

We're clearly not bothered about the domestic cups again, so, in reality, we have a total of 6 guaranteed games more than last season (UCL group stage).

So, in theory, if we lost the 6 corresponding league fixtures, due to the 'extra burden of playing in Europe', we would drop 18 points.

If you reduce that from our total last season, we'd only be 3 points behind last seasons 4th place.

I don't think you can second guess any teams in a way that will judge your own standings. Also, relying on other teams being poor is no way to be proud of your own place in the league.

At the start of the season who would have thought Westham would have began this poor? They may end up 8th or 9th!. Burnley have already beat Liverpool 2-0 yet we beat them 3-0 and lost 4-1 to Liverpool!

Football is a hard thing to predict and a dangerous way to plan your own final position.

Agreed but by the same token people should stop saying we could be in a relegation battle. Far too early to say that at this stage. If we had lost to Burnley and Swansea I would be very worried but I'm not concerned with losing to united and Liverpool just a little annoyed with how poor we played. We can't judge others performances against our own but we can compare our squads and I believe on paper we have a better than squad than at least 12 teams in this league.

Look at it another way utd and Chelsea have both lost two games so far and one of utds was against Watford, Chelsea lost two,  to top 4 challengers, so the other big teams are having their own problems, Liverpool have probably had the best start having beaten Chelsea arsenal and drew with spurs, but even man City having won six will have their own problems as the season progresses, they' ve only played utd.

Basically it's early in the season and until teams have played each other at least once we have no idea what will happen, perhaps we find some away from, win all home games scrape draws at Chelsea and spurs and head into Xmas top of the league.

Seriously? I hope most have tempered their own expectations - particularly after the start we've had.

The strange thing for Leicester is, due to last season, we're doing everything backwards. We're in the same position as most of the other teams in the league - trying to consolidate our position in the league and pushing for top-10/top-6. But the fact is, despite being Champions, we aren't a top half side. Heck, we weren't even in the PL for 10 years! One season of a great escape and one season of winning the league, doesn't suddenly make us a top half, top 6 or top 4 team.

There's teams like Everton, Stoke, Southampton even Liverpool that have been trying to do that for years and struggle with it.

Of course, winning the league and having some great players is hopefully the platform to push us into that territory of 'top club' - but we've got to all be mindful that we're skipping a few steps along the way so it may not work out

This. And we only had 1 more point this time last season anyhow

You can put the positive glasses on all you want. We have defended atrociously whichever way you look at it and it has been evident since pre-season. It might have been a completely different game against Brugge had Izquierdo scored that early chance, but basically we are now living off the mercy of opposition strikers rather than suffocating games like we did last season.

We have some very solid players and a great collective, but we look far more disjointed this season than last and that's what's worrying about our games so far.

we'll be fine, and I'd be happy with top half. As you say we are comfortably better than 2/3 of teams.

We seemed to have the perfect balance in so many ways last season. But things change. Not just this, but imagine the incentives of playing for that big contract, then getting it. I'm not blaming anyone or saying they are less hungry, but things are different this season.

Did people really think we'd defend the title? Not many sides do that.

I think overachieving last season has meant we will comfortably be a good premier league side for the foreseeable. What progress that is compared to the great escape year. No longer are we relegation fodder - that is how to look at it in my opinion.
