BoyJones Posted 4 October 2016 Posted 4 October 2016 I drive quite a lot in northern France. UK opted out of sharing UK drivers information, in respect of driving offences abroad, a few years ago, so not sure how they accessed your details. However, UK has been pressurised to fall into line and agreed in 2015 to share full details and allow pursuit of fines, points on licence etc from May 2017 for driving offences committed in main land Europe. I don't think Brexit will change that agreement. If you don't want to pay it, you need to double check that the new rules haven't been brought forward.

I rent a SUV from Hertz in Paris, and left with my home address. I think that's the reason they can get my detailed info.
Vlad the Fox Posted 4 October 2016 Posted 4 October 2016 Just shrug your shoulders and firmly say 'non'. They'll forget about it then.
fuchsntf Posted 4 October 2016 Posted 4 October 2016 France, would chase you up on your car nr , when re- returning if you had used your own car.but you rented. Though with German and Brit colleages, I know of no one who were chased down for a radar speeding fine. Nor parking fine (like me 5 years ago). On the spot fines, with Motorbike police, when really tonking it or considered driving dangerously is normal. Confiscation, if irratic and really dangerous, expect cell time.like the UK. Swiss and Germans speeding fines however wont let go, your car nr will be tagged.

ousefox Posted 4 October 2016 Posted 4 October 2016 My mate got a similar thing from Italy and never bothered paying it. The only thing I imagine they can do is put your details through to hire car firms you might want to use in the future.

Was going to say, Witnessed police tail gating in the fast lane flashing their lights without sirens on if you don't speed/ drive like a twat in Italy you don't drive in Italy.
