Lionator Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 It's social identity theory (google it). Leicester fans misbehave, the police feel threatened, the police's police identity becomes stronger, they hit anything they see in blue to make a point. The Leicester fans feel threatened, their group identity becomes stronger, before you know it you have two seperate groups wanting to fight. Who knows what the truth is. Most probably it was a few Leicester fans being drunken states, embarrassing us all as well as a few terribly violence hungry policeman who use the uniform as an excuse. Sad for those caught up in it but the blame lies in two places.
Old Fox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I like many other City fans love the pre match sing song and the square at 3pm was something to behold with thousands of Blue n White city fans enjoying the day. Gradually though as the afternoon wore on you could sense the beer mixed with sun and a couple of hundred mindless idiots the atmosphere changed. As a couple of other posts stated it was the smoke bomb especially the blue one which necessitated the police trying to put it out - It may not be popular but it was thugs associated with our City who then promptly threw things and turned on the police. Yes, 100% they then reacted but what do people expect in a civilised tourist city? The saddest thing was that innocent people DID get caught up in the police reaction but those trying to make excuses for bloody idiots should be ashamed. I along with my brother, teenage son and pensioner father literally had to run from the scene......took me back to the 70's and 80"s which were horrendous and nothing for our city, club or fans to remember with any pride - we have a minority who should be caught on camera and locked up ideally in a Spanish prison to teach them a bit of a lesson. Great day tarnished by a small part of our city who were there for no other reason other than to get smashed and cause trouble.

There weren't many people at the end we were at apart from football people, both lcfc and some atelti perhaps some tourists at the other end
st albans fox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 There was no particular reason for the police to wade in at speed and hit everyone in sight - it just caused a panic and mass rush for the exits which could have caused some serious injuries. They could easily have just announced over a megaphone that the square should be cleared by LCFC fans immediately and advanced slowly to enforce it - however, that's not how they do things in Madrid and suspect they have their reasons for wanting to get a psychological advantage over the supporters by doing it their way.
fairbanksh Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Utter garbage It was our mindless minority who started the clash Yes the police reacted heavily but sorry we were let down by a minority They should be identified and have long bans and the few blinkered fans should grow up

I was there, stone cold sober and have tried to get across what actually happened. if a group of our fans hadn't been spoiling for trouble then there wouldn't have been the chaos that ensued - but the spoiling needn't have materialised yesterday afternoon although as I also posted, suspect it would have gone off somewhere later

Aus Fox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 A couple of questions: 1) Could the police have not simply closed down the bars in The square? I have been on away days before when police have come in shut down bars and the crowd then dispersed in several directions. 2) Are known English hooligans made to surrender their passports 48 hrs before a game in the same way they are for England games overseas? I am talking about those with a know link to LCFC. 3) Could the escort have been moved, as far as I know from friends and family out there, supporters with tickets were asked to congregate in the square and walk to the ground together. The club has the details of ecery supporter their, could a mass text been sent out asking supporters to leave the square when trouble started and move to a different location for the escort.
