ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 5 May 2017 Posted 5 May 2017 None of them. No one has been markedly better than last year. Kasper and Simpson have been our best players but I wouldn't say they've been any better than they were last season.

MC Prussian Posted 5 May 2017 Posted 5 May 2017 I find it tough to talk about "much improved" players looking at how the season has panned out so far. I think we've witnessed players either stalling at a certain level (due to age reasons - see Huth or Morgan), a couple of slight increments in terms of workrate and performance since the sacking of Ranieri (Simpson, Schmeichel & Albrighton, for instance) or players stepping up, showing what they've got (Benalouane), whereas some players have slightly regressed (I'm thinking of Mahrez here as the prime example, but also Drinkwater (prior to the injury rumours) or Okazaki). One could say our development during this campaign is one comparable to a hangover, all the way up to January/February. There was little to no motivation to win things, apart from giving a good account of ourselves in the Champions League. Which gives me hope we won't commit the same mistakes in 2017/2018 and come up with a more positive and focused approach once more.

I sometimes like to look on the negative side of things which can be much more interesting! So I totally agree with your point re; Mahrez who has regressed massively; his form has gone off a cliff I would go as far as to say. Would we / anyone be rushing to sign him based on this season's form with 2 goals from open play (one of which was the cross at WHU) and 3 assists in almost a full season? I suspect not, and that being the case, why is he playing every week when there is no end product when we have an alternative ffs. Yes should have gone in the not yet created thread; Who has regressed the most this season where Drinky would have been a contender.
