Leicester named one of the most car-friendly cities in the UK

Recommended Posts

Leicester has been ranked one of the most car-friendly cities in the UK.

OPONEO gathered data from 12 of the largest cities in the UK and compared categories – from fuel prices, parking, and average speed to road safety and insurance.

They crunched through all of the data and rated each city in turn.

There were six categories in total and each city was rated out of 12 on each category.

How Leicester scored:

Fuel: 4

Insurance: 10

Parking: 8

Speed: 6

Safety: 4

Repair: 10

With an overall score of 42/72 Leicester came fifth out of the cities that were compared.

Glasgow came top of the table scoring 55/72 and London last with a poor score of 11/72.

Glasgow was the cheapest for petrol overall at just 93.2p per litre and Belfast was the most expensive with an average price of 103.24p per litre.

Edinburgh is the place to be to insure your car with an average price of insurance, for a family man with children, coming in at £787.

This was closely followed by Bristol at £802.26 and Leicester at £857.92.

It pays to leave your car on the street in Belfast, Sheffield and Leicester each with on-street rates of just a pound.

However, it comes as no surprise to Londoners pay the most for parking with an average of £8.50 an hour and on-street parking coming in at almost £5.

Leicester came second in the table for car servicing bills, with an average price of £174 with an independent garage and £254.50 with a franchised dealer.

The outcome was not too bad for Leicester, with low costs of insurance and repairs bringing us up the table not too far from the top spot.

Statisticians can prove almost anything, a new study finds

A new report in the journal Psychological Science claims to show “how unacceptably easy it is to accumulate (and report) statistically significant evidence for a false hypothesis.”
