ZeGuy Posted 25 September 2017 Posted 25 September 2017 Schmeichel 5.5 - A bit at fault on the first one. I don't think he could have done much more on the free kick. Simpson 6 - Solid Morgan 6 Really on form Maguire 6 Some dangerous ball loss, but I'd take that over a pointless hoof any day. Chilwell 5.5 Had a real hard time against Salah. Mahrez 5 - Never really was in the game. I'd bench him for the next game as kick in the arse. Ndidi 5.5 He had an okay game but his pass quality drastically dropped. King 5.5 Beautiful through pass for Vardy but sorry, not a starter in a midield two. Albrighton 5.5 Woeful first half, better in the second. Great corner. Vardy 7 - Best performer on the pitch. A real pest for the defense. Should have done better with the pen though. Okazaki 6.5 Ran his sockes off as always and great foul fight for the goal. Subs: Gray 7 Seriously pushing for a place in the starting XI. Beautiful volley. Nacho N/A I start to feel sorry for him. He won't make any significant impact with our set-Up and way of playing. Slim N/A Shakespeare 5 (stay) Again reactive. Gray for Mahrez was right and a strong statement. The last two subs had me however raise an eyebrow.

Nothing will change my mind on Albrighton. Just another player we could improve upon. He's been awful all season, if it was Gray everybody would be shouting for him to be nowhere near the ground.

Just had a look at the match ratings threads and you gave him 7 out of 10 for the first two games, saying that he was 'superb, quality of crossing excellent' in the Arsenal game. I know this kind of fact-checking is so out of fashion, and we're in a post-truth age and everything, but this forum would be so much better if people tried to make at least some effort to ground their opinions in reality.

Check the other threads, I said he has been poor since the Arsenal game. Examples here: On 24/09/2017 at 09:46, Fox92 said: So we're going to keep Albrighton in the team because he 'works hard'? So we're never going to progress then. Have you noticed how often we concede down that left side? Albrighton has been poor since the Arsenal game, should be nowhere near the team. He doesn't lose it sometimes, he loses it constantly... He does this thing where he doesn't even look just plays the same ball just to get rid of it. At home we shouldn't be concentrating on defending first. We've got two attacking threats in Mahrez and Gray and they should both start. On 21/09/2017 at 15:34, Fox92 said: Oh I agree.... Albrighton hasn't done anything decent this season since the Arsenal game and the last two games should have been hooked at half time. I disagree that he can't dribble because I think that's one of his better attributes but totally agree passing skills - he gives the ball away constantly, sometimes not even looking where he passes. Gets away with it though because "he always gives 100%".

He's supposed to be our main attacking threat from midfield yet slows everything down and goes sideways/backwards far too much. At least Drinkwater would look for a pass - even if it didn't come off - or get the ball down and drive at opposition. King doesn't work in a 442 for me.
shen Posted 27 September 2017 Posted 27 September 2017 Schmeichel 5 - He's not been as sharp as we know he can be. Mistake for the Kanté goal and he shouldn't have been beaten at his near post for the first. Had ample time to move across, although I guess he and Chilwell were taken by surprise. No chance with the second, although he probably wouldn't have gotten near it anyway had it been placed a few yards more central in the goal. No chance with the last either. Distribution OK. Simpson 5 - Mostly kept it together, but he and Mahrez had problems when Coutinho moved into the channel. He's not a player who's going to do much to recover a 2-0 deficit, his ability is just limited. Morgan 7 - Compared to the cup game, the defense was working much better, yet we concede 3 more goals. Still not very good with the ball, but the willingness and the way he acts on the pitch shows leadership. I like that. Not really at fault for any goals. Maguire 4 - Very willing to play out from the back, but made a glaring mistake for the third goal just when momentum was with us. Tried to get back, but what he did was suicidal. He didn't actually succeed with many of his forward passes and was generally uncertain in defense. He's a good player, but I think we've seen that he's not the second coming of Jesus. Chilwell 5 - Thought he did OK against arguably the msot in-form winger in the league. But he was still outsmarted for their first goal. Obviously we could've avoided it had he been more attentive towards Salah's whereabouts. He did match Salah for pace which was impressive and was a more attacking presence than Simpson. Mahrez 5 - Struggled to have an influence. Missed a decent chance early in the game. It's becoming the same old story with him. He's much more the 14/15 player than the 15/16 player these days: Occasional flashes of class, with precious little telling end product followed by large periods of anonymity. Ndidi 5 - I think this mark is generous. Apart from his combative and physical performance, he was dreadful in all other areas. His passing was shocking and his non-existant reaction to Maguire losing the ball high up the pitch was infuriating. Look at the replay again and watch where Ndidi is compared to Maguire when the ball is lost, then fast forward to the point Henderson gets the ball. Maguire is the one trying to get the block in and Ndidi doesn't get into shot until the ball has left Henderson's boot!! King 5 - He predictably struggled in a two man midfield. He's just too much a jack of all trades who's mediocre at most things at this level. That said, it was a sumptuous (if slightly overhit) pass to Vardy leading to the pen. He tried to be Drinkwater-ish with his distribution, but he's not good enough. Honest performance as always though. Albrighton 6 - Typical energy. Good quality corner for the first and cross for the third. But he was marginalised and struggles to keep possession like the rest of the midfield. Okazaki 6 - Gave us a lifeline and was always in the face of the opposition. His newfound goal instincts are very welcome. Same old story with his limitations though and struggled like the rest during the first half. Vardy 7 - Had he scored the pen, it would easily have been an 8 or 9. Was not very involved, yet nearly every dangerous attempt had his name on it. Was in the right place for the second and it's Vardy's pace that made King's pass good. Had a couple of difficult attempts on target and even delivered a great cross with his first attempt when he was moved wide right. Ultimately though, I can't ignore that the missed pen meant we got nothing from the game. Gray 7 - Made an immediate impact, which is all you can ask for from him. Well-hit volley for the second goal. Great dribble which should have been a second pen (blatant Can handball). Pushing hard for a starting spot, but doubts will persist. Iheanacho 4 - Actually got a few touches and did nothing productive with it. Was so deep and you can see he's struggling to fit in. Very worried that he'll turn out to be a flop for us and hoping it's just a matter of settling in. Slimani N/A - Had no impact. Shakespeare 5 - The spirit his team shows is good. But losing four out of four against the 'big' sides is disappointing. We have been in all of the games until very late/last minute, but we concede much too easily and he persists with the same setup. I can't decide if he's being too cautious or if he's doing the sensible thing by doing the tried and tested. It's a difficult situation as last season, we avoided the drop by going back to the setup from the title winning campaign. The season before that, we avoided the drop by taking a different approach to the 'stay in the game' mentality we adopted by Pearson until the Great Escape. Does Shakespeare have the answers? Ref 7 - Generally good. Liverpool 6 - Bang average bar Coutinho who stood out. What a player he has become.
