How does our academy compare?

Apparently, we've lost a key member of the academy staff to West Ham.

Who ??

It's been covered elsewhere. It's not great but it's worth mentioning he joined in 2017 and by that time Hamza, Barnes and Chilwell's development was well under way. Hopefully with our new reputation we can attract someone equally as good.

You'd hope so.

From the looks of it we're replacing our entire academy set-up; from staff to the facilities itself.

Hopefully that allows us to produce more talent or bring through the talent more efficiently.

I'm not sure we're replacing the academy staff. Halajko left for the hammers. The last thing I know about is Idiakez leaving with Pearson for Deby and is now at Luton - probably said goodbye to Justin a few days ago.

Tbh our academy can't have been bad 10 years ago. The fruits of its current labours started when we were at our lowest, falling towards league one.

The academy has been a bit patchy until recently. King and Schlupp were about the only breakthrough players and Moore to a lesser extent. Pearson wasn't really a trailblazer for the youth but getting to the Premier League was the be all and end all at the time so he did what he had to.

The title win has given us room to improve standards. It's the best position we've ever been wrt youth. In the 2 most succesful era's for the club in the Premier League era we were a bit of a Dad's Army group. Always have a memory around the time of Gary Parker's time with us under MON that we were a club to go and finish up a career according to one of my relatives. That we would produce England internationals at Under 21 and Senior in the last 3 seasons is fairly impressive.

Its something like the setup in Gaelic Football or Hurling over in Ireland. The county system (i.e the elite level) in the GAA doesn't allow for transfers so its up to each to make the most of what they have even with fairly small numbers. Its not uncommon for a promising 21 year old making it over here a la Chilwell or Hamza.

Really its the strongest position we've ever been in a club full stop. When you look at how its top 6 clubs that are pursuing our biggest assets and how Leicester is still a decent proposition shows how far we have come. A fine mix of British and overseas talent along with a promising start under Buck Rodgers.

When the Thai's bought the club this is more or less where they wanted the club to be I dare say. No wonder we're playing hardball with other clubs over our players.

I say about ten years ago because Hamza, Barnes and Chilwell have all been on our books and have been developing with us that long.
