Gené and Tonic Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 Nowhere in sight We've got to start playing soon or he'll be off to a club who wants him. Johansson can't be happy either. He has publically stated he prefers to play at centre back. There is no good in working on a partnership between a converted striker who is going to retire soon, and a young promising centre back. Get Johansson or Gerrbrand in for Dublin, no matter how good he is, and play Sheehan on the left. btw I also think Gerrbrand should be played. He is never going to regain match fitness if he doesn't play!
BenFilbert Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 You're correct in some ways but would you change the team? I wouldn't!
Jimmy Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 i would be supprised if 1 or both dont play on wednesday
Benji Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 You're correct in some ways but would you change the team? I wouldn't! we said that after the watford game, recall us being total carp against burnley
Bert Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 I agree with you about NEJ, but when the two center backs are both playing well you can't really drop them.
Gené and Tonic Posted 23 October 2005 Author Posted 23 October 2005 Well yes, I would change the side. I can't understand why Williams wasn't in the side today. Against a better side we wouldn't have created squat with Gudjonsson and Kisnorbo in the middle! My prefered back line would be --Stearman---Gerrbrand--McCarthy---Sheehan-- Pace, and the ability to defend higher up the pitch. Remember, we won against a crap side today. Against someone like Southampton or any other team above us at the moment, we woudn't have won that game.

That is why, my friend, you are not a manager.
Thracian Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 Definitely I'd change the team. I'd have changed the team weeks ago and after Burnley and after Coventry. Where did the goals against leak from? Left back. Watch the video. I'm not making it up. I have consistently stated that Sheehan is the best left back in the club by a distance. Why would you NOT play your best player in a particular position. It's not as if the alternatives have done any good, is it? It's a pity too that someone cannot put a video of Sheehan's recent free-kicks for the reserves onto every forum members sites. There wouldn't be many arguments then, believe me. Look at the polls, such at fans' team selections. It's almost getting to the stage where LEVEIN is the ONLY one who doesn't want him playing. Why, why, why, why can that be. I've asked and asked but there's no word from the club, no word from the boss, no word that I've heard on the radio or in the Press. Is there no-one close enough to the club to get a plausible answer?.
Gené and Tonic Posted 23 October 2005 Author Posted 23 October 2005 It has more potential, and better ability to defend where Levein wants them to.

Thracian Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 I agree with you about NEJ, but when the two center backs are both playing well you can't really drop them. No but you can certainly drop Nils.
BenFilbert Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 at the minute i would sooner see dublin stay where he is hes playing very well I know. I can't understand why people want Dion out. McCarthy plays so much better with Dion. Johansson did too. Dion is so important.
Benji Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 as the next game is a cup game i would like to see: maybury-----gerrbrand----mccarthy------gilbert/sheehan it could be the future defence in a few years (with stearman but he's not lacking match practise like maybury)
Gené and Tonic Posted 23 October 2005 Author Posted 23 October 2005 I know. I can't understand why people want Dion out. McCarthy plays so much better with Dion. Johansson did too. Dion is so important. Well for a start, Gerrbrand is a natural centreback, has good potential, and will become restless if he keeps turning up on the bench. Dion, as good as he may be, is not a natural centreback, and will probably be gone by next season.

Shall we get rid of Chambers because he'll probably be gone in 20 years. Play him because he's our best centre back!
Anish Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 We definitely need to give somebody else a chance at LB. Johansson was at fault (again) for the goal we conceded. He's no use going forward (although I was impressed by his forward runs today) and he doesn't maintain his position when told to do so. Give Sheehan another chance.
City Fan Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 I think our best defence is: Maybury-----Dublin-----Johansson-----Sheehan
breadandcheese Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 as the next game is a cup game i would like to see: maybury-----gerrbrand----mccarthy------gilbert/sheehan I couldn't agree more. I think Levein was right to play Johansson at left-back today to counter and snuff out Scowcroft's aerial advantage. Agains Cardiff, we will come up against a proper winger (as oppose to a big lanky Scowcroft) so we're better off playing a more mobile full-back.
Guest Gist Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 I think our best defence is: Maybury-----Dublin-----Johansson-----Sheehan i like that defence sheehan can get up and down the flanks more than johanson and i am sure much quicker too
Gené and Tonic Posted 23 October 2005 Author Posted 23 October 2005 Plus Sheehan has a good freekick on him and can whip corners in well too.
cisono Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 as the next game is a cup game i would like to see: maybury-----gerrbrand----mccarthy------gilbert/sheehan it could be the future defence in a few years (with stearman but he's not lacking match practise like maybury) I don't understand why it being a cup game makes a difference? Not sure we should drop Dion... (or Stearman for that matter). But I am keen to see Sheehan back.
Guest Gist Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 Yep hope CL realises he should give him a go ... unless there is a reason for not playing him?
Gené and Tonic Posted 23 October 2005 Author Posted 23 October 2005 Not sure we should drop Dion... (or Stearman for that matter). To give both a rest, and to get Gerrbrand and MAybury up to match fitness
Bert Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 I think our best defence is: Maybury-----Dublin-----Johansson-----Sheehan I agree that is a good defence but there isn't really anyone with natural pace there, that is the only downfall of that.
cisono Posted 23 October 2005 Posted 23 October 2005 To give both a rest, and to get Gerrbrand and MAybury up to match fitness I would keep them on the bench though... just in case
