I'll be driving to one of the tram stops south of Old Trafford....I believe some of them have free parking.

If you're coming from the Peak District East Didsbury had free parking last time I used it.

Also true, but not direct, and I've a feeling that the tram might be less busy coming from the south.

The A555 extension has now made getting to stops like Navigation Road very easy.

Altrincham did in 2016 when I parked there, but don't think it does now.

The only problem with the tram is the horrendous queue to get anywhere near the metro station after the game. Allow at least an hour.

This is true. I'm hoping southbound is less horrific than town bound.

Southbound is better than towards the city centre, but you still get caught up with the home fans going back to Surrey.  Trafford Bar is only about a ten minute walk away and a good alternative
