I think they have sadly all gone! Friar Tuck is a "super Market", Robin Hood a "Shisa Bar",Cricketers is offices,Foresters i think is still going as a music venue,North Bridge has been boarded up for years with pictures of a Council candidate who probably isn't with us any more(used to sit behind him in the Kop and didn't look well then)Duke of Cumberland was where the storage place is now,Sanvey Gate Tavern turned into a "Knocking shop"...now flats......not sure about The Joiners......But yes i was brought up on Frog Island and the state of it now is a real shame!

Way back in the very early 80's either the Friar or The Robin Hood used to show porno's on a Sunday morning, including some of a very specific nature :whistle:.

My mates and I used to go.

Made me the man I am today.

I'm still scared of donkeys.

Leicester City Tramways tower wagon No 3, dating from 1924 it was a Leyland C Type. A similar vehicle (No 1) was preserved and is part of Leicester’s Abbey Pumping Station, Museum of Technology.

At least one thing in that picture is still there.

That's an incredible story.

I’ve been to the opera house in Buxton…. Imagine having something similar in our town…. Very sad

Glenhills Boulevard 1959.

With all that land there they could have made it a dual carriageway which I believe, was the original intention.

I believe it was, never going to happen now we're more likely to see a dual carriageway removed.

Welford Road Cemetery has its roots, like many of its Victorian contemporaries, in the urbanisation of the industrial cities. Due to the population growth in Leicester during the industrial revolution there was a desperate need for private and municipal cemeteries.
The cemetery was opened by the Mayor, William Biggs, on 19th June 1849. There are many notable local people buried at Welford Road including local business owners, politicians, architects and one of Leicester's most famous women, suffrage campaigner Alice Hawkins.
The photograph shows the cemetery chapels before they were demolished in 1958. Courtesy of Leicestershire Record Office.

I used to occasionally help a friend clean both those pubs.

I expect some of the blood and spilt beer was yours?

That's right! Just coming up from Groby Road was Robin Hood,Friar tuck across the road,Cricketers,Foresters,North Bridge,Duke of Cumberland,Sanvey gate tavern,Joiners....and that was even before you got into town!

You missed the Ship there too. That's gone gone now. Used to sell Oakwell Bitter.

2002, I joined the parents on doing three of the remaining Frog islands pubs. Robin Hood had gone.

All died with the hosiery factories in the city going.
