Was actually excited when we signed him, but turned out to be a poor player and an even poorer person. The this is the biggest club ive ever signed for shit when he signed for forest was the stuff of embittered 5 year olds. The man is a c... and the fact the mercury swallowed his sob story puts them in the same bracket.

I've always tried to stick up for the Leicester Mercury, it's not easy working to the models and conditions they face in this age of media consumption.

I used to check the Leicester section on their website daily, but don't now because it's total dross.

They've managed to totally detatch themselves with Leicester fans, which is actually not easy to do considering their position and base.

I think once Rob Tanner and James Sharpe left, the alienation accelerated.

The current crop of Journalists can generate clicks, but when it comes to insightful knowledge and opinion about the club, that side is currently extinct.

They have the potential to be the number one place to go for knowledge and opinion about the club, but as people have said before in this thread, more sense is to be taken from here on FT.

There is no connection to the club presented from the LM's site journo's or edit department.

It is a small world and I hope the team from the LM read this part of this thread and accept what an embarrassment they've turned themselves into.

Having worked in the local press for 30 years plus, your post sums it up quite well. Its not the quality of the news but a method of getting readers to the site. Any old dross will do so long as we can quote strong audience figures to prospective advertisers.

I guess you don't you show them the bounce statistics then as I'd imagine they would be through the roof in the sports section

Utilising your experience, would you say that they could at least try a new approach to gain credibility back?

Or would you say they are content to just generate ad targets?

The suggestion that the modern Mercury has alienated itself from the fans after previously being revered by them seems to be a bit of a re-writing of history.

Many of us will remember reading the reports from Bill Anderson (aka Hans Christian) and wondering which game he’d been at because it didn’t reflect anything like what we’d seen.  North Korean newsreader stuff.

By the way, having clicked on that link to this story, and fought my way through the non-content to get to the story, my iPad feels a tad besmirched.

The print media is on its knees and there are very few journalists left at these local newspapers, so it has now become copy and paste journalism.  They just take stories from other news sources and just put it on their websites without checking facts.  Now it is all about clickbait so they can get their advertising revenues, so everything has been dumbed down to the level of the Scum.  Like the Scum the apology is hidden away and the damage has already been done, it should have been the main article on their sports section for at least 24hrs.
