To be fair, it worked. He was quite forceful in getting rid of players like Mills and Beckford, but they weren't up to it, had cost a lot of money and didn't have the right attitude. The players that replaced that crop of Sven signings, such as Morgan, Drinkwater, Vardy etc, had a bigger drive to win and togetherness

Really interesting comments here, he’s obviously trying to saying something physical happened without opening himself up to be in a bit of bother when he can’t prove it.

Mills, Beckford, St Ledger etc. were all on hefty wages. Brought in to win promotion. Their legacy is a 3-0 defeat to Milwall. They stole a living here. Nige gave a chance to each of Sven's signings to prove themselves. Konchesky, Kasper and Nugent all became major parts of the rebuild. 

 

Getting a consistent run of good performances out of the first group was one thing. However, the childishness and idiotic sending offs was probably the tipping point. We replaced him with Wes - what a great deal.

I'd like to believe that Nigel dealt out a combination of his greatest hits: grappled Mills to the floor and jokingly throttled him in the corner of his office, stood up and called him an ostrich, then sent him on holiday to Thailand to get his bumhole licked.

Some vague recollections of this time (correct me if I'm wrong, as I have an aging, imperfect brain):

- We'd let a 2-0 lead slip midweek, losing 3-2 at Watford after a defensive capitulation led by Mills

- On the Saturday we played in the FA Cup away at Norwich (then a division above us). Nigel dropped Mills and gave Wes his debut......we won 2-1.

- It was rumoured that immediately after the Norwich win, Mills approached Nigel to complain at being dropped (unused sub/traveled with squad?) and was sent to sit on the team coach

 

As others have said, you then just need to look at the subsequent career trajectories of Mills and Morgan......... Go on, then, Matt, off you stumble!

I don't remember much, due to a combination of age and past alcohol abuse. When I do online quizzes to name Leicester players from the past 10-20 years, I regularly forget half of them! 

 

But it seemed a big moment at the time. Mills was our captain and had been a big signing under Sven, hadn't he? So, dropping him in favour of a new signing in Wes - apparently a solid Championship defender but nothing more - was a big decision.

 

Also, I rarely go to away games but went to that Norwich match.

 

(I'll probably find that I've misremembered everything now! ) 

 

Mills had been billed as a top upcoming defender when he joined us from Reading, as I recall?

And now, to quote one of my Dad's many great sayings....... "he's a man with a great future behind him"!

What a chump. I remember seeing him get sent off once against Birmingham or someone thinking this guys a thicko. Never in it for the club or the fans, it was a big pay cheque for players like him and Beckford. Not our sort of player and never was.
