Foxes_Trust Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 And although Wigan are going well, it isn't definete they are staying up. I can report a cheer in the Directors Lounge tonight when Wigan scored their first from the few of us who were left
Foxes_Trust Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 ...says the chief executive talk like a fan, i`d appreciate you more. If were third bottom or so...or even 8th top. Come January, we`ll have that £1M, whether its paid or not, so SPEND IT CITY!! That's because we discussed it with the club only a few hours ago & what I keyed was exactly what was said. We are fans, as are the Directors, but they won't put the club at risk of going under again (& the Trust wouldn't want them to either), so spending £1m you haven't actually got is a non-starter.
lush Posted 6 November 2005 Author Posted 6 November 2005 FT, lcfc is a business ok, if wigan have 30 or more points come late jan (and they have 25 now), then it makes business sense to spend upto £1M on improving our team that could help us stay up or go up.

Too right as well.

I'm with Foxes Trust on this. Nothing is certain in football - you can lose every game til the end of the season just as easily as you can win them. Irresponsible spending has caused us so much misery in the past so refusing to spend anything that's not actually banked is absoluely right. Cut your coat ...and all that.
Nationwider Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 Norwich fell from 3rd to relegation from the Xmas-May period a few seasons ago. Charlton have been attempting to do this for several seasons now. Until the fat lady's sung, done her encore and is in the taxi home, the £1M stays put.
Hazza Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 Will the money remaining from Connolly's sale be made available for Craig Levein, Foxes Trust? I couldn't really blame the club if it was put on debts but i think there would have been little over £1m remaining after the signings of Hume and Hammond.
Durnerz Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 The problem for me lies in the midfield. Through the centre we're not creating enough, theres no drive and determination, countless times Maybury was left 2 on 1 while Sylla leisurely strolled back allowing Southampton to fire countless crosses in at Douglas exposing the weaker sides of his game. More and More like DavieG I seem to think Elvis Hammond is just quick, thats it, he's not finishing any chances, he's not using his head to burst up the line when people are stuck for someone to pass to and when he does, its too late. He's not a footballer in my eyes. Smith was ok but needs to keep it simple sometimes, too many times he tried fancy tricks when all that was needed was a pass inside etc but he is promising. Williams I can defend for yesterdays performance, when you're asked to play in a position that doesn't suit your game its hard, having said that though he once again showed no willing to run in the midfield when people like Quashie got free time and again. I'd blame Levein more for Williams yesterday. Maybury had his worst game in a Leicester shirt for me. He may as well have just held a white flag every time he was left with a one on one, he just allowed them to go by, Richard Stearmans a lot better at stopping that happening and offers more I think going forward. Patrik Gerrband impressed me no end yesterday. Reads the game superbly and when young Walcott broke away you'd have thought that was it, not a bit of it, Gerrbrand showed tremendous pace and desire to get back and make a sensible challenge in the box (Paddy Mccarthy take note) definetly a plus point as was most of the defence aside from Maybury and Mccarthy at times not accepting responsibility for some stupid decisions that could have cost us dear. Much is to be improved.....
Gené and Tonic Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 I agree with what you say about Hammond, even the one goal he scored he just had to blast it into the net! Anyone would have scored it.
Guest Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 I can't believe anyone is thinking about spending £1m they haven't yet got. It's like the people at work who were told we'd get a bonus if the company made a certain amount of profit, and had 'spent' it before the company's final accounts came in. We'd missed the target by some considerable margin.
Durnerz Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 I agree with what you say about Hammond, even the one goal he scored he just had to blast it into the net! Anyone would have scored it. And Simon Royce didn't exactly fill the goal.

I agree with that, what i meant when i say the money remaining from Connolly's transfer was the difference between the £2m we got up front and then what was paid for Hume and Hammond, not the extra million we get for him. I don't know if your post was directed at me but i felt i better clarify mine and agree with you anyway
lush Posted 6 November 2005 Author Posted 6 November 2005 I'm with Foxes Trust on this. Irresponsible spending has caused us so much misery in the past so refusing to spend anything that's not actually banked is absoluely right. Cut your coat ...and all that. You mean cut your cloth But Thrach, heaven forbid anyone taking out a mortgage, because you might lose your job the next day Heaven forbid anyone taking out a loan to run a business Lets be real here, by getting a loan of £1M from a bank, and wigan not getting another 15 - 20 more points in their next 27 games, is a bit unrealistic, and even if wigan went down, its not disastorous, AND spending a mill could earn us millions in the process. Its very unlikely too, that buying/paying a striker for that much with craigs good judgement (overall) is hardly likely to become a failure. Lets hope that come january hammond hume and chambo are doing enough, but if not, we must speculate to accumalte. On the subject of dubs, alan hansen and another football pundit said over the w/end, that you need pace all over the pitch. Harry rednapp on sky today said about older players who`ve had good careers, something like, some managers find it hard to say no to those kind of players. Was he refering to craig and dubs? If you remember, craig signing dubs to play upfront, he wasnt good enough so played at the back, now hes up front again. Craig, treat dubs like an illegal substance, just say NO.

I doubt in our current financial state of still paying out the requirements of our administration commitments we could even legally take out a loan, you have some nice ideas and positive thoughts but you lack for any sense of realism. Still agree with you about Dubs - although I would have given him a 4, having said that Hammond is not a footballer, we should enter him as our representative at the Olympics preferably in an event that doen't require a ball
davieG Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 Oh and it's "You should cut your coat according to your cloth."
SIRFOOT Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 WIGAN GAVE US 2 MILLION UPFRONT! AND WE SPENT JUST OVER 1 MILLION ON HUME + HAMMOND, THAT MEANS WE HAVE BOUT 850,000 FOR JANUARY! SO IT MEANS WE WOULD NOT BE SPENDING MONEY WE DONT HAVE, PLUS IT LOOKS CERTAIN WE WILL BE GETTING AN EXTRA MILLION. had to write it in caps because all the people saying we dont have any money to spend and "we cant spend money we havnt got" were really pissing me off.

Apart from your the assumption that the money hasn't gone to pay some necessary bills - I'm amazed at how black and white people see business and life in general.
lush Posted 6 November 2005 Author Posted 6 November 2005 I doubt in our current financial state of still paying out the requirements of our administration commitments we could even legally take out a loan Can anyone confirm that yah or nay? I wonder if wigan would give us say £800,000 in mid jan, if they have 30 - 35pts or so. "Apart from your the assumption that the money hasn't gone to pay some necessary bills - I'm amazed at how black and white people see business and life in general." Are you assuming it has gone to necessary bills, explain futher davieg?

So where do you think the money comes from to pay for wages etc when gates are down on what the club budgeted for. Also... next season we lose the parachute payments, I would hazard a guess that the money will go towards the wages budget for next year.
Babylon Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 I wonder if wigan would give us say £800,000 in mid jan, if they have 30 - 35pts or so. Why the hell would they?? What possible reason could you find for them to actually do that. Has the club actually stated that we get a million if wigan stay up?? Have people thought that it was also made up from appearances and goals scored!!

They`d save £200,000 Do you know the absolute deal, regarding the £1M payout?

breadandcheese Posted 6 November 2005 Posted 6 November 2005 the money recieve for connolly is extra cash, bills etc... are payed for with the revenue the club receives. the way the club pays the bills would of continued as it was before the connolly deal, therefore the extra 800,000 looks as if its a surplus. I read this morning that bankruptcy rates in the UK are rising all the time. It's not difficult to see why if this is the financial acumen of some of our fellow countrymen and women. The "extra 800,000" as you call it went to pay off existing club debts. The club has loans and payment commitments to various institutions at various rates of interest. Thus, not all the money from Connolly's sale went into the transfer kitty, but went on repaying principal so that our interest payments fall. Wigan will not advance the money to us in January, not unless we offer to renegotiate the transfer so that we receive a smaller advance payment now rather than in the summer if Wigan stay up. I for one would be against this short term fix proposed by Lush, as I do not believe we will get promotion this season, so there is little point accepting less money on the premise that we have an outside chance of promotion. The club could get take a loan based on the potential payment from Wigan, but again, there are no guarantees (which I admit looks unlikely Wigan will be relegated) and more importantly, I do not see why we should take on more interest repayments for a January transfer when we are unlikely to get promotion with or without. Unfortunately, football is a business. We have seen first hand the consequences when it is not treated properly. The fact is, if you owned Leicester City, and it was your money, would you saddle yourself with more debt in the unlikely event that we might get promotion this season. Sadly these are the facts. We are building nicely for next season, ironing out all the problems along the way this season, e.g. defence. Let's not get stupid.
