lush Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 Yet another non serious attacking performance by CL. Do we really wana score a goal? Do we wana win? WHEN are we going to play TWO strikers at the same time???? We started with hammond, great, but played dubs alongside him HOW the hell is dubs better equiped to help us score, more than Hume???? I`d rather de lump play instead of dubs, and thats just because hes flucked a few by way of the ball hitting his head With the opposition weaking in the latter stages, what did CL do, yes take off our quickest striker and leave the tortoise on You cannot expect a 36 year old to play competitive for 90mins. The main spark in attack was Smith. His performance was the closest to a 10/10 weve had since the oneil years. Right, our defence, it seems solid enough (were not leaking), so thats a positive. Johanson was once again brilliant in a near alien position. Williams was atrocious in midfield. How about smith in the attacking midfield role? Tiatto, raise your head before passing, so you can see who your passing to. If were not carefull, burnley will do the double over us next week. Our defence is good, but it cannot hold out like a dam forever, WE MUST LEARN TO SCORE!!
Babylon Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 Craig Levein says he is happy with the progress that his side are making after the Foxes battled out a 0-0 draw with Southampton at the Walkers Stadium. The Leicester boss again singled out his defence for praise after they posted their third clean sheet in as many games. And he confirmed that his attentions would now switch to the attack on the training pitch as Leicester go into the fortnight long international break. He said: "I thought that we played well in spells. We defended exceptionally well and their two strikers will be as quick as anything we come up against in the Championship this season. "Their forwards are in form and we restricted them to very few opportunities. "Our work over the next couple of weeks will need to be on the attacking side of things, although Antti Niemi has made three fantastic saves today. I certainly won't be buying him a drink after the game. "While I want us to win all our home games I also realise that Southampton are a decent side and they will be one of the top teams come the end of the season. "I don't like not getting three points at home, but we have a fairly young squad and we have to take the positives out of the game. "The defensive side of things gives us something to build on and I feel more comfortable in the knowledge that we look as though we are going to be extremely difficult to beat. That's the first stage to get to with any team. "When you are playing against the better defences you need to put them under pressure in the 18-yard box, but I don't feel that we did enough of that today - whether it be from crosses or open play. "It's not a secret that we have been concentrating recently on tightening things up at the back and making sure we do the basic things properly, because we were losing too many goals at the start of the season and dropping too many points. We are a different animal now." Levein also hinted that he could be on the lookout for another striker after his team again failed to find the net at home.  He added: "I have thought about bringing in another forward, but there is no point doing that unless I can get someone who will improve the team. It is something that we have talked about and are looking."

He got in the way of a close range shot, because thats all he could do. Craig, its VERY difficult to win ANY game with only one striker. Why am i telling you this, your getting paid thousands of pounds to KNOW it. You have to be fair with critsism, and his only plausable excuse is his young squad. True, we are looking difficult to beat, but do we look like winning? Are you building us a fortress base on which to eventually win? We are a difficult animal, we scored 4 v stoke, 2 v crewe sheff wed, now zero v depreston, plymouth and southampton. we havnt scored a league goal in 2 half games. Can we just get rid of dubs and de lump please, pretty please, and use the forthcoming £1M from wigan to secure better?
Hazza Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 It seems there's no point in defending CL anymore, i mean we played 3 up front against Plymouth and were outplayed in the first half, 2 wingers today and an attacking midfielder with the 2 forwards, it's not exactly negative. You've got to give the players most of the blame for that, Elvis had two good opportunities and Williams just wasn't good today, so that makes it difficult. Dublin should just be used as a defender from now on as he's not got the pace to do enough up front, i don't see how getting rid of our top scorer will help though, sure he can be infuriating but the fans are far too harsh on him. There were a few incidents with Dion mis-controlling today and there was a few groans, had it been MdV the fans would have been wanting him killed.

Levein has tried to be positive today and against Plymouth. I think there is an inherent problem in the coaching of the midfielders and strikers at the club. What they are doing in training clearly isn't working in matches. The movement is poor, positional sense isn't great and we just don't look like scoring from open play. It doesn't matter how many attacking players you play in the team, if they aren't coached properly to make the right passes, the right runs, and the right decisions, then you still won't score. That's where I think we're going wrong - plus the fact that De Vries isn't reliable or consistent, Hammond has shown nothing, and Dublin is past it up front.
Thracian Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 We really need to sign a striker in January Before we get to January why don't we at least LOOK at Chambers. I'm beginning to wonder how many people who post on these threads have ever seen him play. Cos if they had they wouldn't be so dismissive of the idea of using him instead of Hammond. No-one is suggesting he is the final answer. But used sparingly why not? I've seen him lots of times and against fast, strong opponents. Given the four or five excellent chances we had in the first half Chambers would certainly have threatened a goal. He really does send a buzz through the crowd when he gets the ball - just like Gold-Smith. Twice in recent reserve games I saw him gather the ball outside the box with two/three defenders around him and nothing really on. Twice he crafted the faintest of openings and curled his shots into the net. On another occasion in one of those matches he made awonderful 40-yard run, gathered a diagonal path and in one movement fed Levi Porter who bent in a stunning left footer. Vision/effect/ruthlessness .. key qualities of a striker which Chambers has and Hammond doesn't.. We should see how he goes.

Lush, There were two strikers playing today one was Dion Dublin the other was the UTTERLY ABYSMAL Elvis Hammond. Dion Dublin is at least a good squad player, and has played well at the back Hence why he has won player of the month lush. Not to mention the fact he is under contract and no one will want to pay money for a 36 year old. How on earth you can say get rid of De Vries while that headless chicken with the touch of a HGV is still in our squad I dont know, How you can blaim our problems up front on Dublin without commenting on the lack of any touch or shooting abilty i dont know. Elvis hammond is half the player Marc De Vries is. or 1/8 of the player if prefere to look at it in goals scored!! Dont get me wrong Dubiln was poor as well. he's lost what little pace he had and should not play up front. Ryan Smith did not put in a 10/10 performace the most I would give any player on that picth was 8 and if I had to give it to any one it would be Paddy G. Completely in agreement about Tiatto, even more so on that utterly awful display by Williams. Manchester City if you want him please take him i would settle for 350,000 for him. How Nottingham Forest could sit in a tribunal and ask for 3 million and keep a straight face I dont know. Ive seen him play ok once, and Badly three times now. I wont go into his performences last season. I thought our midfield looks strong at the start of the season I thought it would be the one aspect of our team we would not need to alter in January. But with Joey and Hughes out it looks extremly light weight. If Patrick Kisnorbo Looks left and right as many times whilst crossing the road as he does on a football pitch it must take em 3 hours to get across. BALL FOWARD!!!! Like to say thanks to Mr Jason Hullcox for the free seats and a good afternoon. If I had sat on my own and paid 17 quid for that I would not of been chuffed People are starting to slate Levein again which I think is somewhat unfair at the end of the day its not that badder reasult. It just was awful to watch. However if he doesnt take action and tackle our rather glaring problems in Januray I will start to think differntly.

All though im sure most people are with you on wanting to see Chambo play im not sure we'll see him until next year sometime, you must remember he is still only 15 and if he got in the squad in front of other players this may cause unhappiness. Saying this though,I so wish he would be in the squad every game!!
Blue Arrow Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 Are you sure he can play at 15? Yes i know he p[layed in the cup but there are different rules
Mark Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 Before we get to January why don't we at least LOOK at Chambers. I'm beginning to wonder how many people who post on these threads have ever seen him play. I've seen him play a few times. Did you watch him on Thursday for the England U-16's Thracian? I thought in the first game they played he was very good and scored a cracking goal but not so on Thursday, he was hardly ever involved or looking to get involved for the 40 minutes he was on, i wouldn't want to be too critical of him though. I'd wait until he's 16 myself, but obviously if he keeps doing as well for the Reserves as he has been we've got to think about introducing him.
davieG Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 Frankly once again I don't think todays performance by either side, both were crap had very much to do with tactics or formation. The fundamental problem was neither side was capable of stringing 3 passes together and when they did the ref got all excited and blew his bloody whistle. There was absolutely no continuity by either side. There were some incredibly piss poor performances today from our team. Rab must have been thinking about his return to the Scottish fold because he certainly wasn't at Filbert Way. Williams may as well have left when the whistle went for all the contribution he made. I think Kisnorbo would perform better with a guide dog for the blind he just doesn't know where to go and what to do with the ball. Hammond should take up sprinting because in my mind he's never going to make it as a footballer, trapping a ball and shooting straight do not come easily to him to put it mildly. As for Dublin, well he's never been a favourite of mine , I'll give him his due he's done so, so at the back, but Gerrbrand is here to stay I hope. Today up front his contribution to the game was zilch, blank, diddly squat, goose egg, insignificancy, naught, nil, nothing, nothingness, nought, nullity, squat, zip, zippo, zot oh apart from when he half-heartedly clapped the Kop at the end. In fact I was half wishing one of the half-time legion could have taken his place, they looked sharper. For me yet another nothing performance from both teams and not worth the £13 quid I paid, sorry if you paid more, I couldn't even accept my son's usual £10 for his ticket, it would have been like robbing you're own family.

He does for the Reservers, this does not mean hes going to do it for the first teame there is a big gulf in quality Not to mention the fact he is only 15. But as you say. Anything is better then Hammond, I would add finishing and first touch to Vision effect and ruthlessness as well. What an awful buy he really was. If that Moron CL had just waited until January before spending a portion of what little money we had on a striker who has scored 3 goals in his life (aged 25 might I add) I dont know. he has to be his worst signing.

Yes, a few of us couldn't understand CL being so hasty to buy Hammond. Three goals in all those years while Chambers must have scored around 8/10 already this season (counting his England youth appearances).
lush Posted 5 November 2005 Author Posted 5 November 2005 Before we get to January why don't we at least LOOK at Chambers. I'm beginning to wonder how many people who post on these threads have ever seen him play. Chambo would be my third choice striker behind hume n hammond. Ive said it before, and im saying it again, we need pace upfront. Not a 36 year old 2 weeks from his pension, or a lump in the mud. The only time they score is when the ball hits them. manwell: "Ryan Smith did not put in a 10/10 performace" I never said he did. Dubs was a passanger mate, and thats all he`ll ever be now. I`d thank him for his time, and promise to send him a "celebrations card" for dec 25th. bertfox: "All though im sure most people are with you on wanting to see Chambo play im not sure we'll see him until next year sometime, you must remember he is still only 15 and if he got in the squad in front of other players this may cause unhappiness. Jimmy Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 i believ i'm right in saying that there is now a rule that players must be 16 or over to play in the league

Three goals in all those years while Chambers must have scored around 8/10 already this season (counting his England youth appearances). Although I think he's piss poor I don't blame CL for buying Elvis, (I certainly wouldn't call him a moron Manwell) because as is often the case we don't know the facts. do we know for sure that CL didn't try to buy someone else, do we know for sure that Fulham didn't knock on his door at the last minute and say buy him or we'll take him back, we could have been left with just MDV, Dublin and a few juniors. We simply do not know the facts. BTW Thracian nice to have you back, I never believed you were Chandler
Jimmy Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 dint we have elvis on loan for the season anyway, or was it until christmas
davieG Posted 5 November 2005 Posted 5 November 2005 dint we have elvis on loan for the season anyway, or was it until christmas Christmas, but I'm sure they can change the terms as and when they wish, anyway i'm not saying they did I'm saying we don't know as we're not party to any negotiations.

lush Posted 6 November 2005 Author Posted 6 November 2005 The club will not spend the additonal £1m until it is in the bank ...says the chief executive talk like a fan, i`d appreciate you more. If were third bottom or so...or even 8th top. Come January, we`ll have that £1M, whether its paid or not, so SPEND IT CITY!!
