Leonard Cohen

Saw him live back in the 80s, must have been around the time he released I'm Your Man and then again at the O2 when he was in his 70s about 10 years ago.

One of my favourites, crazy to think he didn't even get into music until his mid 30s as well, yet still had such a great long career. I think his debut album from the late 60s has to be one of my top 5 or so favourite records..

There are connections too -

Dylan was a huge admirer of Otis Redding and its rumoured he wanted him to sing 'Just Like a Woman'.

Knopfler played guitar on some of Dylan's less inspiring records.

What a group those three could have put together?

Almost got me on the subject of the Travelling Wilburys... but that's probably for another thread.

I unapologetically disagree TPH!

Whilst there's some crap on Slow Train Coming, and Dylan's Christian conversion period wasn't one of his best, the title track of STC is an absolute belter.

Knopfler's superb guitar, from around the same period as he produced Sultans of Swing and brilliant lyrics, that in typical Dylan fashion, resonate as much today as then, make it a classic. Of course, that's just my opinion, but I had to state it, given it's about Bob

Edit - I came late to Cohen and struggled with him for a start, not anymore.

'Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried, in my way, to be free' is one of my favourite verses in music, brilliant.

Realised I hadn't said anything about Cohen.
