Thinking it's a good thing to bust out of competitions in our current season to achieve Champions League/Europa. Then the next season thinking it's a good thing to bust out of Europa.

Maybe it's how I wrote it? IDK?

Ever consider the Manager did he's best we the resources at he disposal.

No one could have predicted the amount of injuries we had at that point.

What would you have done?

Fans might be allowed back in some capacity in time for the final. While it would be good to win it this year, winning the FA cup for the first time with no fans definitely would put a dampener on it.

Winning it in these circumstances would be awful, but I appreciate beggars can't be choosers. It's a tricky one.

Watching our team play champions league football would be more enjoyable for me than an FA Cup win i think. That Sevilla game was unbelievable. Testing ourselves against the very best in Europe is great fun.

The reason I used to hope for a cup win was because it was the most viable route into Europe.

Champions League football is great but winning actual silverware is the end goal. I can see both sides of it and I do think that finishing 4th would do more for our next couple of seasons on the pitch than winning the FA Cup would - in terms of actually being able to hold onto players and whatnot, but then again even that I'm not 100% sure on either, the belief winning a trophy would give those players and us as a club could change mindsets.

I tend to agree with whoever it was who said we just go in this circle and have this debate every single year, it will be exactly the same next season no matter where we are.

For me, any other season, it is the FA Cup and anybody can quote me on that. This season however it's all a bit different. Not only is the schedule a legitimate concern (of which the injuries are likely to scupper winning the FA Cup anyway) but the top 4 is one of those things that's good without it being a particularly memorable moment. To have the moment of winning the FA Cup stolen from the fans in this utterly soulless season, I dunno, I could be one of a few here but I'd feel sick. It made the European games generally very unenjoyable for me. Weighing those up, this year I would take the top 4. But every other time it's the cup for me.

It took me a long time to figure out what to say to this.

And what it comes down to is I doubt Brendan and more importantly Susan Whelan or Top are disappointed that more focus will be going on finishing Top 4 and the Champions League participation trophy now. That's where the money is after all.

I kept reading the first sentence and you obviously meant to write "Ever consider the Manager did his best with the resources at his disposal." (I make worse mistakes all the time. Not holding that against you.) I think you're alluding to some sort of balance with top 4. Like did Brendan take us as far in this competition as he could until something more important came up?

i prefer we go out and try to win every game we're in. Take 3 points or progress in the cup competitions. I really hate how other competitions are treated as a distraction to try to get to Europe. This is a thread about people being relieved we no longer have European Football to get in the way of achieving European Football after all. Whether the gambit pays off and the 4/7 odds at the bookies come through or the 55% chance given by a couple stats sites to finish top 4 remains to be seen. Got an FA Cup game next weekend as well. And for the most part fans would prefer the League Cup to be abolished or finish without European Football than with Europa League.

So which games did he not go out to win?
