Don't you agree it would help attract the better players to our club?... would winning the FA Cup ?

Overall, CL football is far more beneficial to the long term aim of our club than winning the FA Cup..in my opinion.

...I am not disputing that.....!!!

Just your statement stating that we are sacrificing  hundreds of millions concentrating our attention on the FA Cup is false.

We can dine off the fact that we won the PL trophy just a few years ago. The ultimate domestic trophy!

Spurs fans (bless their hearts) will never have that wonderful feeling 😂.

Thank you God!

Thank you so bloody much!!!

I don't want to just "dine out" on that though, not while we're capable of being better than that. If we're just gonna have that mentality then we might as well move 30 miles up the road and get tattoos of trees on our arses.

Have to disagree with all of this, players are interested in money and competing at the highest possible level. They're not going to be romantics. Well club A is offering me 80k p/w and Champions league football. Club B won the FA cup last year but can only afford to offer me 40k p/w, on the other hand it will be nice looking at that domestic trophy they won last season.

I disagree with the idea that it's one or the other anyway, but if it did happen that way. The player is going for the team that's competing in the champions league rather than the team that's won a couple of FA cups in recent seasons.

I agree, but they also take the chance to win trophies into account. If they compare us to clubs with similar league positions and the other clubs demonstrate a better perfomance in the Cups then that's going to be the tie-breaker. If people genuinely want the club to progress then getting into the habit of winning stuff is going to need to be a huge part of that mentality.

The players we have out injured are key players which makes things worse. Barnes, Maddison and Perez are amongst the best creative players we have and Praet can also do that role from midfield. Not to mention the impact of Justin and Evans being out has on our defence.

FA Cup win and fifth will do for me.

Would love a trophy.

Need to temper some of the comparisons with Spurs. They're historically a huge club so them missing out on top four is a much bigger deal for them than it is for us finishing fifth.

Yes we want it all, and we want it right now, but we're a different kind of work in progress.

Finishing top four this year surely strengthens the club and makes us more likely to win trophies in the next few seasons and to sustain that success.

I agree although not sounding defeatist another EL stint wouldn’t be the worst thing as far as the trajectory of the club is concerned.  CL on the other hand.... đŸ€©

I didn't quite put it like that..

I'd love us to win the FA Cup, but this particular season , if I had to choose, I'd prefer a top 4 finish... both would be wonderful, but I'm not convinced that we have the squad to do it.

If the club prove me wrong...

Fantastic!!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and we'll only see come the end of the season if it has borne fruit.

I see no reason why we can't go for the FA Cup now though. It's only another couple of games after this one with ample break in between. Hopefully some of the others will recover by then

Think it all depends on what you want.

I’d prefer to see us play Champions League (given the finances and the status in propelling the club) but can completely understand why some would rather see us win a trophy.

Personally, I feel that the rewards of finishing top 4 are much greater than winning the FA Cup in terms of what the club gets out of it.

But what do you get out of it yourself? No memory to tell the grandkids, no day out at Wembley, no joy at seeing us lift the trophy, no sense of pride when you look at the "Honours Won" in the LCFC section of a book or website.

If the club are going to start doling out their share of TV revenue from finishing in the top four to fans then count me in though...

The problem also is that if we did just focus on trying for top 4, would our top players end up being poached next season and we fans be denied the possibility of an FA cup.

Here's how I see it; we can finish 4th but the team really has to apply itself in every game from this point on.

That means playing smart and making efficient runs and finishing chances things players can control.

we also need a dollop of good fortune (something we can't control) ie, our key players stay fit, we get players back from injury sooner

and our rivals hit some tricky patches of their own and drop points (that last one is huge).

The FA cup is all about who turns up on the day and wants it more. With that being said we can upset the current odds and beat Manu.

I wish we could have our first 11 fit and ready but thats not going to be the case so whoever steps up has to play out of their skins.

For these reasons I wouldn't want us to surrender our cup opportunity. Plus I bet most of our players would love to win a trophy!

If there is one thing Leicester are now known for is to do the unbelievable and not what's expected by the biased elite.

Does anyone remember the massive injury list we had leading up to one of our play-off finals under Brian Little in the early 90's? I think it was prior to the Swindon match (3-4).

Would I take 4, yes of course.

Would I take 5 and the FA cup yes of course.

Would I take 4 and the FA cup every day of the week.

Name another season when we have been in a position in mid-March and still mathematically be able to do the double.

Man City are wobbling ;)

Dream big or go home.......

I know they have won cups but only having won the top division twice puts in doubt whether Spurs are truly as big as they're hyped.

If we could win the cup that would be superb.

I don't get why people want to rest players in the FA Cup? They have 2 weeks off after (ignoring internationals).

Also if we get a round further, the league game in mid April (West Brom I think) would be moved back a few weeks thus allowing more chance of players to come back from injury (e.g. Barnes). THat could be the difference of 0/1 point from that game and 3.

I am glad we are out of EL as I think that would have killed us off. However, it might not have done and we may have been better off with it? Who knows.

Go for every competition. In Round 3/4 I might agree with resting players if we really needed to but not when you are 3 wins away from silverware. Man U have a decent squad but we can match them on our day. Avoid City in the semis and play them in the final when we have Top 4 in the bag and plenty of players back to full fitness.

I'd be quite happy to forego the FA cup as well, put a 2nd string out and break a few united legs.

Just Fernandes. That's all. Put Morgan on, tell him to sweep the leg. They'll struggle without him.

We'll be back in Europe very shortly and then it starts all over again.

And this time it'll actually be enjoyable.

If the squad's not strong enough then what's the point in qualifying for Europe.

We are not in a position to pick and choose what competitions we want to be in. ALL competitions have to be treated the same.

But give me a trophy any day of the week. Any trophy. In 10/20/30 years time I wanna look back and say I saw us win something not that we finished 4th.

You can bet your ass I'm mentioning that time we finished top 4

Surely the only explanation for people saying they'd sooner make top four ahead of winning the FA Cup is because that is more likely to happen and it is purely a hypothetical question to start with?

I'm not sure I believe when people say (not to go all Piers Morgan) they would actually choose top 4 if the FA cup parade and celebrations were right in front of them as a real moment.

Posted

I was as disappointed as anyone to go out in the last round but it was tempered by the likely scenario we're back in Europe next season for another go.

I don't see why we can't have a go in the FA Cup now, I think we'll play a strong (with who is available) team.

The big picture is that top 4 represents a major boost to the club. Aside from the cash, we'd be better able to keep our best players and also to sign the players we want. This would mean we'd have better chance of success in all competitions next year.

I'd like to see us grab this opportunity to push the club on to the next level and become one of those that is regularly competing for trophies. Being in the CL gets us a step closer to that.

I'm up for a day out at Wembley for sure, but I'm even more up for another trip abroad. Madrid is rather sexier than north London.

Why not do both?
