davieG Posted 26 November 2005 Posted 26 November 2005 Sorry to post a moan but I'm totally pissed off, I've just spent the best part of yesterday and most of today except for the footy, by the way pleasure to meet you Thracian cleaning spyware from my PC. What's really got on my tits sorry nerves is that it's actually programmes to get rid of spyware, how bloody perverse is that? The only way a pc illiterate like me can shift it is to pay to £50 to purchase the shit they're trying to sell . This the second time i've had to do this. Fortunately for me Hitesh put me on to a site called CastleCops and they've been tremendous, I believe I'm almost clear now. But at my age I've got better things to do with my life than piss about with all this stuff, as I say Nasty Bloody People - what goes through their minds? how can they get pleasure or any sense of satisfaction from it. Ps Before anyone suggests it my pc is loaded down with norton, spybot, ad-aware etc, etc. Sorry about the language but I just needed to get it off my chest. I'm feeling much better know, oh and if you've reached this far thanks for listening. . Up the Citeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Hitesh Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 Hmm...some anger was felt there! But im pleased that castlecops helped! Its all about keeping updated! all it needs and you dont need to spend loads of money on software. Just get an interenet security suite like McAfee (which i strongly recommend as the better one!), ad-aware and the BETA Microsoft Anti Spyware or even Spybot. Also try and obtain a program that cleans out uneccesary registry and temp files. Something like Crap Cleaner. And all you need to do is keep the definition files up to date and your sorted! Let it auto scan and clean and you need not worry about it!
Rincewind Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 Norton keeps telling me that I have a non-vral threat file named bridge.inf that cannot be removed but when I do a search my PC tells me it cannot find it. I have deleted some stuff from the registry with that name.
Katy Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 Don't talk to Mr Lisa about Spyware. Shite, I was planning on having a discussion with him about it on saturday as well, now thats buggered!
Deathside Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 Just get an interenet security suite like McAfee (which i strongly recommend as the better one!), ad-aware and the BETA Microsoft Anti Spyware or even Spybot McAfee may well do it's job, but it also causes a hell of a lot of problems of it's own Microsoft Anti Spyware will be built into Vista (The next version of Windows) - Unfortunetly Vista is not scheduled to ship until Jan 2007
Blue Arrow Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 Buy a MAC, we don't have these problems. Yep, 0% of viruses are for mac OS X
Deathside Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 Yep, 0% of viruses are for mac OS X Not quite sure what you are saying here? I guess this is relevant though Destructive OS X malware spies on Apple users
Guest Posted 27 November 2005 Posted 27 November 2005 Shite, I was planning on having a discussion with him about it on saturday as well, now thats buggered! Well you can do if you really want, but don't say I didn't warn you!
Ric Flair Posted 28 November 2005 Posted 28 November 2005 Shite, I was planning on having a discussion with him about it on saturday as well, now thats buggered! PM me sometime Cobbo if you fancy a chat about it, i've been desperate for a chat about it myself.
Katy Posted 28 November 2005 Posted 28 November 2005 PM me sometime Cobbo if you fancy a chat about it, i've been desperate for a chat about it myself. Im sure Mr Lisa would be a bit miffed at being accused of being Cobbo Ric
Jon the Hat Posted 28 November 2005 Posted 28 November 2005 Buy a MAC, we don't have these problems. Exactly what I was thinking. Need to buy some antivirus software though, as my .Mac subscription has run out. Any suggestions?

The only problem i have had with Mcafee is the user settings but they are overcome easily. and once everything is set up as you need it then its simple!

I only run Norton occasionally because it tends to be quite heavy and heavy-handed. If it goes wrong, it goes wrong spectacularly and it's difficult to sort things out. At the moment, I am using AVG (the freeware edition) from grisoft.com as my main anti-virus, together with spybot, ad-aware and SpywareBlaster. I also have some settings that block known "nasty sites", I'm selecting about what I dowload (and from where) plus I always virus check downloaded files before doing anything with them. That seems to keep problems at bay (fingers crossed).

I should say something witty but I can't think of anything, but I'm honoured to be your very own anti-virus, a bit ironic really as I'm sitting here with a cold and with a pc recently awash with spyware.
