Milky Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 After blasting 4 past sheff utd last week it's really frustrating to see us not score a goal in open play again this week. i really wanted that to be the start of some fluant goalscoring, and what's happened to those nice clean sheets? that's a shame. oh well, bring on friday evening and let's see what we can do at stoke.

Attacking more leaves us open to letting more in at the back I'd guess...couple of weeks ago people were saying they wouldn't mind that. Levein has said Paddy will be fined, and both Levein and Maybury think their second goal was offside.
Thracian Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 Attacking more leaves us open to letting more in at the back I'd guess...couple of weeks ago people were saying they wouldn't mind that. Levein has said Paddy will be fined, and both Levein and Maybury think their second goal was offside. Hold on. We conceded two, the same as at Bolton when we defended. Furthermore one was from an unnecessarily given free kick when the Leeds man was covered by several defenders - according to radio - and another from a free-kick which led to a deflected shot. We've lost enough games over the last year by defending yet everyone suggests this game was there for the taking. If we don't take advantage of ANY of our free-kicks/corners we'll never win enough. What I'd really like now (just for once) is for Levein to play our BEST attacking team. It's all I've wanted for months. We're nearly there but apart from left-back, Sylla needs replacing (right wingers must present a goal threat but hasn't scored all season) and we must have a genuinely proven striker with aerial ability. Sheehan's presence should just about compensate for Levein feeling safer attacking with Kisnorbo and Joey as anchormen (which I accept for now cos Joey IS going forward) instead of having one rottweiler and a creative player. Most people realise what I've mentioned have been the main weaknesses for months but Levein has been far too slow to correct them. We won't get the striker til January but the rest can be fixed straight away.
Muz Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 T'was a good game. We attacked well , played some decent stuff. But Kisnorbo and Hammond are simply not good enough. Kisnorbo cant pass and Hammond just has'nt got a brain. A few times Smith played the ball into the near post and Hammond just stood there and waited for it instead of attacking the ball. Also Smith did'nt get the ball enough , when he did he caused a few problems , but it was'nt the best game he's had for us. I did'nt see any trouble except for a few Leeds ''fans'' making threats towards us , and running there finger across there throats. Scum.
Milky Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 They say a picture is worth 1000 words. so this is how i feel.
The People's Hero Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 PS I don't want Levein's head. I just want him (and his coaches) to start using theirs. I'd like something similar. He's worked out that Hume has to start. Now please work out that we need a left back playing at left back. I listened to the radio commentary, and I know that that doesn't give much insight in to the performance but it did surprise me how many times we got set pieces and how few of those who converted in to genuine goal scoring opportunities.
Milky Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 well, i think it was smith taking most of them. if he wants to be a world class player he needs to learn how to cross a ball. sylla took alot aswell, and we all know about his crossing
The People's Hero Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 That's very true. I'd also say however that we really have to work on both the execution of the set pieces themselves, but also the movement and finishing of those trying to get on the end of them. It's years since we've taken consistently good set pieces. Probably have to go back to Izzet's deliveries.. and even some of his were shocking towards the end of his time here.

Milky Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 it seems to me like they give the set pieces to the stereotypical crosses if you know what i mean. williams is (supposed to be) a "flair" midfielder, smith and sylla are the wingers, and as we all know in football the beat set piece players are usually in those types of positions. perhaps in traing they should let every player have a go at whipping a few in and then see who is actually the best at it.
Hullfox Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 Just got back myself and yes Thrach, I thought Maybury had his best game of the season as it happens. Listened to Radio Leeds on the way back and the Commentary team (including Eddie Gray) were saying how we were the best side they had seen here this season. They also said how they missed the sending off as they were watching the screen as they all knew that Kilgannon was offside by miles. Even the callers were applauding us. My opinion? We are far from the finished article but I find watching us lose more palatable at the moment. We deserved something from the game but missed out but for me CL has turned a corner. We are attacking more and more and the fans are responding at the games. 3-3-3 is not sitting back. - I'm not sure about Douglas for the free kick but he made some good brave saves today at the feet of attackers. It was another good atmosphere in the away end. Elland Road? run down, 20,000 empty seats, no atmosphere from the home support - how pleasing is that? I'll put up with Hammond and Kisnorbo as long as we put in team efforts like that.
Milky Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 That's an encouraging assessment of the match. thanks for that, i'm feeling a litter bit better now.

I don't doubt your assessment of Maybury for a minute but it makes me laugh cos the guy hardly got a mention all afternoon from the commentary team. Sounds like we were robbed then judging by their second goal. PS: I never said WE were sitting back (if that's what you thought) - I was talking about Leeds in the first 25 minutes of the second half. My main criticism of us was wasting all the free-kicks and corners. I was delighted with the positive approach I'd still like Maybury back in his best position though and to use Sheehan's ball-striking abilities.

Leeds had to play like the away team and could only counter attack and offerered nothing else, we were the better side for the whole match and deserved more than we got!!! but that's football...
FNQ Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 Just got back. For me that was our best performance this season. Well done everyone.
Thracian Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 Just got back. For me that was our best performance this season. Well done everyone. Better than Sheffield United? Or best away performance? Great to here. Hope Levein doesn't lose faith cos we got robbed (as at Derby). Three points from the last two games is still better than we've been averaging. Just fine tuning needed.
FNQ Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 Joey's last free-kick summed it up. All I've got to say is 12/15 wasted free-kicks and we leave Sheehan at home...yet the last time he played a League game we won 2-0 Levein has tried everyone and his dog in that position but I cannot recall any two goal wins - in fact I cannot recall many wins at all. At least we tried to attack but the ball-to-feet approach seemed to have gone, our marksmanship was crap (as usual) and some players like Maybury, Kisnorbo, Sylla, hardly seemed involved according to the commentary. Sylla, who I've said was a weakness months ago, completed another game without threatening a goal and even Smithy seem to be neutralised second half. A silly free kick and a deflection gave Leeds two goals and McCarthy's sending off meant a rally was hoped for but hardly likely. I wonder what Levein's reaction will be to that incident. We HAVE to start scoring from our dead ball chances. What was Barber and co. on? Seems like they were commentating on a different game. Our passing was good, Momo was effective and Maybury had his best game in a city shirt.

Muz Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 just goes to show what a totally wrong impression of the match you get from listening to it on the radio!!!!! Exactly. Sylla had a good game today. One of the best I've seen from him as of yet.
Foxes_Wizard_Striker Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 so we have a good chance of beating Stoke then?
Muz Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 so we have a good chance of beating Stoke then? If we put our chances away, Yes.
Foxes_Wizard_Striker Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 Imaging thrashing Stoke on sky and all people watching and saying" Hey Leicester is really an exciting team"
Thracian Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 just goes to show what a totally wrong impression of the match you get from listening to it on the radio!!!!! It was certainly different from that described by the fans in attendance. Shots apart, they don't seem to recognise anything tactically about the match nor do they keep up with play. So often they get sidetracked and then there's a gasp and its "Leeds have just shaved the bar" right out of the blue with no reference to how the ball suddenly arrived at the other end of the ground. Maybury and Kisnorbo barely got a mention, for instance and Stearman was not much better served - yet both full-backs appeared to have goodish games. How much is down to the fans seeing everything in glorious blue and white against the commentators trying to be objective I don't know but the same happened on Wednesday with the fans saying "great effort" and the commentators describing a boring encounter with little by way of adventure from City at all. Ah well, I'll find out soon when I'm able to go myself and I'm certainly glad, that being the case, that we're starting to attack now in away matches cos the 4-5-1's the commentators describe sound awful.
Hullfox Posted 3 December 2005 Posted 3 December 2005 PS: I never said WE were sitting back (if that's what you thought) - I was talking about Leeds in the first 25 minutes of the second half. I appreciate that Thrach, only the paragraph about Maybs was for you specifically. I loved the irony of your earlier post about him being our best player. I do hope that your situation allows you to start going away again soon. I love it.
