I don’t believe that we’re having more ‘named storms’ due to CC

Of course we didn’t used to have named storms this side of the Atlantic - a rapidly deepening storm in the sw approaches late October is just ‘weather’.

But the storms themselves are becoming more severe. As are other weather effects, like heat waves. And the increasing global average temperature is chiefly responsible for that.

Sea surface temps are higher than normal which provides energy for storms but I believe that the climate change effect on the uk re autumn storms relates more to increased precipitation than wind

Which is in itself an increase in severity of effect.

I know you're keen on precision of argument here and have made similar comments before, but please don't look to be downplaying how things are changing.

I guess im just making the point that maybe an autumn storm belongs in the weather thread rather than the climate change one ??

A fair point to make, the aforementioned fact about such storms becoming more severe because of climate change in terms of rainfall, if not other factors as well, notwithstanding.

Yeh maybe true, dunno. My main point is the economic impact of climate change is way more amplified, even if this particular event  isn’t directly linked
