2900 ? Is that it ? That’s a drop in the ocean really isn’t it…..

Feel free to say that to their families, too.

As an aside, it's fascinating to see how some folks are perfectly happy with lots of death and suffering until the time comes that they are inconvenienced, and the reason why this matter is a hot button for those folks is because dealing with it can and will result in that inconvenience for many who wouldn't usually have to deal with it.

Of course, if it isn't dealt with, they're really going to be inconvenienced further down the line.

Hahaha yeh exactly. The same dudes that will absolutely wet themselves crying when they can’t board their annual jet2 package holiday to torrenolinos or whatever because it’s 53 degrees.
‘But I go every year!!’ ‘But but but Nigel told me we’re too small to do anything!!’

My client is involved in this and was showing me the posts today!!!! It all sounds illegal (he insists the law hasn’t caught up yet). They farm bots to post nonsense on happy clapper social media outlets like fb and TikTok. Rubbish that no one would believe, like ghost flights, but in fact there are armies of jet2 happy clappers that do believe it. They go to the pub and tell their happy clapper community and engage with the posts. The bit I don’t get is the ones making uk the rubbish then bet on the engagement stats of said posts on kalshi via an OTC and make a fair whack.
It’s mad that anyone would believe this rubbish but as he was saying today you have no idea the level of gumph happy clappers will not only believe but tell their friends about. Backs up my thoughts that you can make a killing from these people if you know how. Climate change denial being an easy win

We flew back from Mexico a few years ago, there were 5 of us on the flight plus crew.

I'm not sure why people moan about these, I got smashed on free booze  and slept on the seats as a bench.

Yeah you should try approaching china, india and the people who can actually make a difference. We are a fart in the wind and we can’t make a blind bit of difference. But hey let’s bankrupt the country with this looney net zero crap…

It’s virtue signalling at its worst

This keeps coming up as a convenient cop-out.

And the response remains the same - if this is true, then engaging them in a mutual race to the bottom where everyone loses helps no one..

This is where nationalism falls down - in the face of a global problem, that needs global action, with global responsibility if things end up going to hell in a handbasket.

Of course, it's a free country and people are perfectly free to let their own future (and that of their descendants, if they have any) burn for the sake of their present, but what really shouldn't be acceptable is such sentiment affecting political decision making in a way that it burns everyone else, too. No person should have that right. No one does have that right in any other area - in fact in most it's deemed some kind of criminal act by the society we all share and perhaps should take better care to preserve.

It works the opposite way too. Why the heck should I be forced in to becoming ‘carbon neutral’ if for, whatever multitude of reasons, I don’t want to?

Because that's the way society, local, national and global continues to function and doesn't collapse straight into Mad Max.

In at least some cases, it is demonstrable that the needs of the many outweigh that of the few and particularly that of the one.

It may sound unfair, it may be unfair, especially when you think you're on the end of it, but the alternative is a descent into no society at all. But clearly how acceptable that is, is up to the beholder.

Obviously 'ghost flights' doesn't mean what I thought it meant

Engage with the Facebook posts, tell every happy clapper you know about it and then hopefully my client will make a ton of money and my firm can set up the structure for the revenue.

Next post will be some slop like

‘They’re  taking your heaters from YOU!! Labour militants caught RED HANDED entering peoples HOMES and disconnecting heaters from hard working BRITISH people!’

Nobody’s forcing you to do anything.

Even if you don’t care about the climate impact, I’m never sure why people are so keen to continue breathing s**t for air, or happy to pay higher prices for a finite resource.

It’s not for everyone or every situation but the binary culture wars position and throwing weird shots at “miliband” (didn’t capitalise so I could fit in) just comes across as a bit silly.

Cheaper energy, where people aren’t held by the jaffers by the Middle East or Putin is surely an aspiration for all I would have thought? I for one am not massively happy at paying £250pm for my energy bill.

@The Year Of The Fox, I’m not sure why I have a notification saying you have quoted but can’t see anything. I assume you put something you have deleted?

I have no issue with you. I very much enjoy your posts on the football side of things as our views on subject like Brendan Rodgers, Russell Martin and KP have always aligned!

I obviously have a more central view on these types of matters (whilst certainly not being a ‘leftie’) but it is all part of healthy opinions and debate!

Well they were weren’t they- Gas fired boilers originally to be phased out by 2030 in new builds- then put back to 2035, because, in fairness to Starmer he realised how stupid the Tories target was.

Then the whole ‘carbon neutral/free’ deadline set for 2050.

These are all things that’ll directly impact each person.

As for your last paragraph, this is one reason why giving Jackdaw the go ahead is a great idea.

This the Jackdaw field you said on the last page would have negligible impact on prices in the medium and long term?

What ever the elite decide, the war in russia and ukraine was the reason they went so high absolutely bullshit imo

Keep the poor poorer simple as that

First winter with our heat pump, so far so good, as our last boiler was nearly gone it has a 5 year pay back.

New builds are perfect for heat pumps, much more suited than my property. I think they could be standard on new builds today and there would be no drawback. The government should offer the grant to housebuilders as well as retrofits.

They’re quite common in new builds now but aren’t being fitted anywhere near as frequently the government needs to meet their targets.

New builds certainly have better insulation (also becoming an issue in the summer too) but unless you’re talking about fresh out the ground new builds, then a new build of say 5 years old only has the insulation as a positive in terms of ASHP requirements

Either way, as predicted by those ‘ITK’ they’re not taking off at anywhere near the rate the government require. Gas is here to stay.

Though to contradict my last sentence, I think air con units doing both cooling and heating will be the way forward and the product that really does take off.

The insulation helps to keep the house cool in the summer. We didn't need air con this year bar a portable we use in our boys room.

I blame the tight wad that didn't bother to insulate that room in the renovation.

We will probably save what we would spend on air con and look to insulate the last couple of walls in the house instead.

Insulation is perhaps the wrong word but new builds are tested on air flow ‘leaks’ or ‘adventitious air’ as we call it.

The less the better as far as current regs stand

Yep, it prevents warm air coming in in the summer in the same way it prevents it leaving in the winter.

Either way, our houses are too hot in the summer, because they’re built for the winter.

Do you have any involvement in/knowledge of keeping heat out through your line of work?

Obviously the main issue is like you say, how houses are built. We are currently having an extension and at one point, one of the builders mentioned something that can be done as part of the plaster to keep it a bit cooler. And I have seen things about what you can do with the glass in the windows. But I am sceptical about whether anything would actually work.
