To add to the examples that you have given, if I were a Liverpool fan for instance, I probably wouldn't be wearing the club shirt around Brussels or Turin C.1986. I'm not sure that the locals would be so quick to make the distinction that you have made. I understand the idea of not feeding trolls, but this particular instance has been held up in front of our faces and to simply ignore it, under such circumstances would be to send out a clear message of tacit approval. You may be able to shrug off the association but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. How on earth would I be approving their opinions? By just belonging to a community that one moron also happens to belong to? It's entirely unrealistic and would be incredibly exhausting to expect people to feel responsibility for the actions of everyone in their community. The implications are also absurd - that every Catholic, Jew or Muslim has to expressly show their disregard, publicly, for anything which anyone who belongs to the same group does. That I would have to worry about what other Leicester fans get up to, or say. That every time a drunk fool batters someone because they're a Forest fan, that's also on me. Come on. And how is there any similarity between me simply being a Leicester fan at a time when some other Leicester fan, somewhere, said something horrible, equatable with a fan wearing their colours in a place where it would obviously be insensitive to wear them? (Quite apart from the fact that, regardless of how inevitable it might be, it would also have been wrong for Belgian fans to have considered all Liverpool fans to be responsible for Heysel). I approve the opinions that I choose to approve, and feel little need to advertise it most of the time. Being British doesn't mean I advocate all of the things that have been carried out in the name of Britain. I wouldn't glower at someone for saying they were a Sheffield Wednesday fan, and failing to quickly disavow the Bradley Lowery incident, either. It would be crazy to do so. I can't decide whether this is the modern equivalent of people demanding self-flagellation or other public shows of atonement for things which, on a global scale, we just can't expect people to take responsibility for. The problem here is that people are craving that hollow, token response to something which doesn't warrant a response, as if it will make something better which can't be made better. As if it will prove that we're all among the good guys when, in truth, there's no need whatsoever for everyone to be reminding the world that, in case you hadn't noticed, I'm not a **nt. All it achieves is to make that idiot the centrepiece of everything, while everyone else flails around trying to prove that they're above that sort of childishness. Me clapping on the 22nd minute, when most people won't have a clue what they're clapping for, or joining in in the public lynching of some prat who isn't worth the merest of considerations, isn't going to absolve our fans of anything, nor prove that I care, nor make either the tragic loss or the offence caused any better. All it does is add to the sense of shock, alarm and outrage at something which should have achieved nothing whatsoever. 6 2

merlin1969 Posted 29 December 2023 Posted 29 December 2023 Mods if he is on here ... ban for life please!!
Saxondale Posted 29 December 2023 Posted 29 December 2023 Whilst it’s true that no LCFC fan should feel any obligation to apologise on behalf of some worthless shitbag who happens to support the same football team, I think it’s quite normal that people feel compelled to do so. The comments have evoked the same anger and revulsion in LCFC fans as they have in ITFC fans. 2

Gutting that anyone dies of cancer, it's unbelievably tragic that it's a lad in his twenties. But that's for his family and friends. All this thread does is give the troll and others like him oxygen. If people stopped going on the internet looking to enjoy being offended and just blocked this kid and others like him without responding, retweeting or otherwise making him famous then him and others like him would stop. It would certainly be a much better approach than doxxing him which - and here's the really unpopular bit - is actually more of a crime and more offensive than him making a stupid and offensive post about a cancer victim. People love to be offended though. In fairness my brand of seeking offence involves rolling my eyes at the idiocy of these responses. But yeah I've always found it odd. Frankie Boyle once spoke about the topic of responding in outrage on social media, equating it to a Judge giving a guilty verdict for indecent exposure, stating; "the defendant is found guilty of showing her... ONE OF THESE." Point being, it rubs salt in the wound. These attention seekers only get the time of day when other people do their PR for them. No outrage, no coverage, no offence, no harm. 2
Lizzibee Posted 30 December 2023 Author Posted 30 December 2023 Thank you who responded - it was a lovely 22 min clap for the lad. Unfortunately we had a medical emergeny during the game where we lost the life of a fan (and not a good spectacle) and opposition fans thought it was a joke. The sooner this is nipped in the bud for everyone 1

guest123 Posted 31 December 2023 Posted 31 December 2023 I honestly can’t work out the purpose of this thread and what the initial Twitter exchange has to do with any of us. It is always incredibly sad when someone dies, especially when young, and it certainly is wrong and pathetic to mock that. That person doesn’t represent me though, or my football club, he only represents himself. I don’t associate myself with any comments like that so not for me or the club to apologise on that person’s behalf. Trolls like this always know what they’re doing and getting all the attention on Twitter and a 4 page thread on a forum is exactly what they want. Ignoring people like that is the best way to stop them as they’d soon get bored in their echo chamber. 1

Don't want people like that on the forum. There is no room for that kind of sentiment here or anywhere else. Condolences to Ben Moore's family and friends.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 31 December 2023 Posted 31 December 2023 (edited) This whole thread is really depressing. Most Leicester fans are typical Midlanders aka world wise, cynical, pessimistic, gallows humour. Have a line that you don't cross and show decency and respect when something like this happens which puts the game into perspective. RIP to Ben Moore, as for the pathetic man child mocking him, you reap what you sow Edited 31 December 2023 by Arriba Los Zorros

Same here - particularly when being a nosy twat I looked on Twitter and some of the critical Ipswich fans of this incident (correctly critical) were quite happy to throw vile shite at towards Norwich and particularly Jonathan Rowe a week previous and on the 29th of this month. Twats are twats, the end. You’ve given him exactly what he wanted. 1
