Keepers we've produced?

When was the last time a keeper came through the ranks at City and made the number one jersey his own? There hasn't been one for the last ten years atleast. Surely in the whole of Leicestershire, there must have been atleast one young keeper who could've progressed through our academy in the last ten years? As people have said recently, we've been blessed with quality keepers over the years, I just don't know why we've not been able to find a young keeper to challenge for a first team place for so long. Watching Matt Nurse in goal for Quorn today and he made some very impressive saves. Ok, it was only against Nantwich but he has certainly got the basics of keeping spot on so why didn't the club work with him and improve him even more? He was just released like so many other young keepers at City. Why didn't we get Kirkland ahead of Coventry? I know he's injured alot but he's still a decent keeper. Who knows how long it'll be until we do produce a keeper who can make the grade so we don't have to get keepers on free transfers who are past their best (Douglas).

well if you think about it over the past 10years we have had quality former england keepers - flowers and walker keeping the net safe for us - the chances a youngster who broke through to the first team setup wouldnt get a game anyways :(

Shilton was obviously our best keeper we have produced and will of course be very very hard to beat, or may not even be beaten

but i cant remember any keeper we have produced from the youth ranks that has made it big wih us

Russell Hoult, Carl Muggleton and Ian Andrews were all reasonable keepers at one time or another. Russell Hoult was even rumoured to be near the England squad about 18 months ago. Couldn't see it myself, however. :)

how about we give conrad a chance. what harm can it do

 Quite a lot of harm actually.

Henderson is a solid keeper, get him in.

I'd like to see Henderson given a go first.

I think it's generally better to bring in younger keepers into winning teams. The argument for protecting younger keepers is much stronger than for protecting young outfielders.

I don't know how good Conrad Logan is, but don't feel now's the time to find out. A loan move (League 2 or Conference) would perhaps be better?

Did Kirkland ever play for our youths he is a good keeper?

Nah, Cov pinched him before we could sign him.

Well he's either not rated or not considered ready to even have on the bench whilst Hendersons been injured, so probably not a good idea.

i want henderson given a game first aswell, though it would have been nice to see conrad play in the league cup against blackpool or something. though having said that i suppose henderson needed at game a that time.

as long as logan gets a chance some i'll be happy. if we just relase him release giving him a pop that would annoy me.

Cost us goals cos he's not good enough, certainly judging by his performance in the 5-0 defeat by Charlton Reserves last Wednesday. I wish he was.

Maybe Shilts should do a new video on what it takes to be a top quality goalkeeper. I was fortunate enough to spend many hours shooting at him as a teenager and I can promise you - training hardly ever stopped for him.

When everyone else finished, Shilts was urging a few of us to stay behind and help him work on this or that. He was absolutely focused, day in day out, week in week out - he left absolutely nothing to chance.

Had the Government chosen to lengthen the days for some reason, Shilts would have spent the added time training - and I don't mean casual training - I mean training that was totally committed and absolute torture for that big body of his.

Enormous sacrifice - that's what it takes to succeed as a goalkeeper, and that only if you've got talent in the first place and he had talent in abundance and, more important, the World's best in Gordon Banks to help him and to copy.

To train top goalkeeper's you have to have one at the club.

banks was off loaded to stoke so shilton could play first team football.banks was past his time but it goes to show the quality of goalkeeper he was at an early age.

Many youngsters announce that they are going to be professional footballers but even as a very young lad Shilts was determined to play for England - and those who knew him, believed it. There was never any doubt.

My dad used to play for the Leicester city before they told him to get lost because he was to shit he was a goalkeeper and born in Leicester. I also played for Leicester and was told to get lost when it came to giveing me a contract. The last Leicester born keeper that could have been great for leicester was Chris Kirkland but he was to to get lost as well. But one day he going to be england number 1.

It sounds hereditary. If you have a son, don't send him for trials at City. The keeping coach will take one look at him and tell him to get lost.

we do need to have a local leicester lad in the side again. dion dublin doesn't count. we need a home grown leicester hero like gerrard is to liverpool, though obviously not as good.

Hardly, considering he was just 29 and went on to Stoke to add 36 more England Caps to the 37 he got at Leicester.

I've seen him several times and he's perfectly adequate at the level he plays and has made some excellent saves at times. But, at this stage, I've seen nothing to suggest he should be in the first team...except Douglas that is!
